A short Mike Andes "Mike Minutes Mastermind" session (07/25/2023) where Mike gives operational guidance to franchisees: upcoming franchise training likely in November (touch base with Lee for exact dates); compensation guidance recommending differentiated base pay for install/hardscaping roles (current base pay cited as $13/hr; suggested $16–17/hr for skilled hardscaping with potential P4P earnings of ~$20–21/hr); advice on implementing late fees (example: 10% after 30 days, or configurable invoice settings such as $5 or 5% after 15 days) and using invoice automation; and a brief take that Snapchat is primarily for a younger audience and is not a strong marketing fit for their customer base.

Hey everyone, hope you're doing super well. Let's go ahead and get started. Just drop this in your Facebook link real quick.
Well, a quick thing I know someone had text me today what the franchise dates are for training next for scenes and reminders.
Etc.
It is going to be likely the next one's going to be November.
Likely.
Probably a pretty big group. So if you're planning to come, make sure you talk to Lee.
And he can give you exact dates.
Etc.
We'll probably be November. We might do in December. We'll see.
And then January, February.
We'll see about those two. Likely in February. So touch base with Lee. He can give you exact dates and times of those upcoming training dates.
All right, we are in business. Okay, let's switch over to questions present.
Here. Quite the day this morning. Sorry for being a little bit later than usual. Had a nice little talk with service autopilot about the fact that they did not honor the contract signed about giving us all discounts. No comments. Yeah. All right, let's roll number one, El Paso, Texas. Hey Mike, what are your thoughts on having two base pay options, one for maintenance and the other for installs type of work like artificial turf, pavers, irrigation. When doing interviews, guys with experience with these jobs are looking typically for three to four dollars more per hour than our current base pay of 13.
Yeah, like you're gonna have to just to attract them. The thing is they should be making more on P4P because they're doing higher value work.
But in terms, remember like you want your base pay low enough to so they can make more money on P4P but you know, high enough to attract good talent. And so if they can earn you know, 20, 21 on P4P because it's higher dollar amounts per hour you're charging, I'd definitely be okay with say offering 16 or 17 per hour as base pay if they're doing hardscaping jobs. You just have to be very delineated. It's like, you know, because then what happens if someone starts with mowing and slowly becomes doing those other services? Like well, when do they start earning the higher base pay? And ideally they don't even care about it once they're in that long because like they're making more. Right. So you just want to delineate exactly what does that mean? Does it mean they can do a paver patio by themselves? Doesn't mean they can do a wall by themselves. Does it mean they need two years of experience? What does that experience look like? Because like you can do experience with paver patios, but if you're just the guy excavating and putting down the base layer and not actually installing and cutting and leveling things off, it's a different level of experience. Right. So you just want to have that very well defined.
This is Marcus from Redmond. Could I get your thoughts on late fees? It seems that they are commonplace for a lot of businesses that if we had this phrase below in the fine print of a thank you and welcome email, if invoice is not paid in 30 days, a 10 late fee will apply. Then we can easily set up an automation in our emails to let us know the client is overdue X amount of days and the feet and to apply the fee. The longer these clients wait, the more likely they are to get sent to collection. So an additional 10% would have have us make some profit at least. Is this feasible for us to do or is it require more legal work? You'd absolutely do this? I would just wait. In Copilot we have this already like automatic. You just set up your invoice settings and it'll automatically add this to the invoice. It'll add late fees based upon what your parameters are. If you want it up to 30 days. If you want after 15 days you can just set $5 5% percentage or dollar amount increases based upon being overdue. So I would just wait, honestly. But yes, you could absolutely do this if this is something more pressing you wanted to do. And then you just have to manually go in there and add to the invoice, you know, a late fee. You could definitely do that. There's probably several other ways to do it too, but it just it's gonna be the easiest once it's like the invoice settings are applied and it automatically is being done on the back end. But you're right. Like that way by the time it goes to collections, if we can already be tacking on a bunch of fees that would make collections not be as bad.
In terms of like them taking a chunk of 30%. Devin from Red Deer Hey Mike, what are your thoughts on Snapchat? I see a lot of customers on it and it looks fun but time consuming. Any good? I do not use Snapchat. I don't really have an opinion on it. I know it's for a younger audience.
And.
Isn'T great for marketing because the fact that this stuff disappears. So a much younger audience than the vast majority of our customers. So I haven't really tried to crack the code. It's much it's really like a messaging app. That's what most people use it for is more like one off to individuals. So cool. I had quite a few musings, but I shared all of them last night with Lee on the mic on the.
What'S it called? C Suite Unfiltered. That will probably prompt a bunch of questions. So if you listen to C Suite Unfiltered, ask questions on the Mastermind, I'll answer them. There'll probably be a bunch of questions from the one he's going to post later today, I think, so feel free. And I went into lots of musings yesterday, so that's all I got for you guys today. Hope you guys have a great rest of Tuesday.
