SETTING GOALS | Business Owner & Entrepreneur Inspirational Video

Mike Andes records an inspirational YouTube message from the Bahamas about setting goals. Using the ocean's waves as a metaphor, he argues that consistency — small, repetitive actions over time — is more powerful than occasional big efforts. He shares personal background (started college at 13; began a lawn care business; was once advised against his path by a teacher named Dan Larner) and states a current goal: to build a franchise with 500 franchisees within six to seven years.

Hello? Hello, good morning. It's Mike Andes. I'm coming from Bahamas this morning. It's early morning here and I wanted to do. A couple people had asked me questions about setting goals over the weekend. I figured I'd answer it with a video here. I'm just out next to the beach right now. It's early morning. It's beautiful out here.
See the waves coming in.
And I was just going through emails when I was out here and got a couple questions about setting goals. So I figured I would answer what was around me, and that was these beautiful waves coming in. Let me set this camera up for you. You know, something about these waves is the amount of power.
That'S behind the ocean. There's billions and billions and trillions gallons of water in the ocean, and the amount of power those waves has is incredible. And I think a lot of times as entrepreneurs, as business owners, we think a lot about goals. We think about, you know, what should I be, should I be writing them down every day? Should I be saying them out loud every day? Should I be doing, how often should I write them down? All these sort of things. I think these are important questions to ask, but I think more importantly is what's the amount of power behind the goals that you're setting? Like these waves, they, they come in 24, 7, 365, every day, all day, every night, all night.
Holidays, weekends, never take a day off. The incessancy of these waves is what gives them power.
You know, one of these waves is not super powerful in and of themselves, but they can literally carve out a cave or carve out a mountainside.
Because of their incessant willing desire just to constantly show up.
I think a lot of times, you know, we talk about goals, we look at the goal. How big is the goal by the end of the day? Even one big wave doesn't make enough impact as just small waves. Constantly, every single day, like a tsunami is not going to carve out a cave out of a rock face of a mountainside. It's not going to happen.
A year, two years, three years goes by, and no one really remembers the impact of that tsunami.
But these waves that come in every single day, time and time and time again.
That'S what really can things really start to get accomplished.
You know, I think people, people are going to mock you, maybe say, you're always grinding, you're always pounding, you're always doing the same thing. You're always working.
You know, can't you just let up for a day? Can't you just relax.
At the end of the day, if your goals are that big, if your goals, your aspirations, what you want to get accomplished is the equivalent of carving a cave out of a mountainside. It's going to take incessancy, it's going to take repetitiveness. It's going to take work and grind and being able to put your head down and just get stuff done.
And at first people will.
You know, say things that you should just relax or you should just kind of chill out, take a day off, don't always be working, don't relax. You know, your goals will happen eventually. Let things happen to you.
Good things to come to those who wait.
They'll say things like that.
But then one day they'll come in, they'll watch your waves, the watch your goals being manifested. Like here, as I'm sitting here watching these waves come in, sun's just coming out over the horizon. Now.
I'm sitting here watching these beautiful waves.
And one day.
One day people will come and they'll watch your, your goals in your life and it'll be inspiration to them. They'll be able to sit down.
To be able to look at the power of those goals, the consistency of those goals and what those goals have done over time. People will come and literally they will gain strength from watching your life.
And your ability to just keep showing up like these waves keep showing up.
Rain, shine, dark night.
Sunshine, windy. Doesn't matter what it is, they just keep showing up. And I think the magnitude of the goal isn't so important as the consistency and the dedication to keep consistently showing up and consistently producing and consistently working and grinding and pushing.
And people will come eventually. And watch now I still remember, even years ago, five, six years ago, just starting out a lawn care business, I just decided to stop working or stop going to medical school. And there are plenty of people that kind of looked at the goals that I had and that they're impossible. That people thought it was weird that I was going to school so young. I remember my first college, my first quarter in college, one of my teachers sat me down and was like, I don't think you should do this. You know, I don't think it's.
Good for you socially. I don't think it's healthy. I think maybe you've been deprived. I was like, kind of like making me feel like I was like in therapy or such something. And I'm like, they're just a college professor who has followed the status quo since the day they were born.
Had no goals, had no ambitions.
That people would come and watch or care about.
And I still remember that. I remember still just looking at him, like, one day I'm gonna show this person, still remember his name, Dan Larner, bless his heart.
But.
You know, you have these goals, you know, things you want to do. And at the time, those goals were to become a surgeon, get school done early. So I went to college early when I was 13.
Started college then. And at that time, I was fully set on becoming a surgeon.
And even from that time, people. People always try to tear down the power of your waves and the consistent determination to keep showing up.
A lot of times, just because they've given up on their own dreams and they've given up on their own, the power of their waves have diminished. So I just want to make this video encourage you to keep grinding, keep showing up consistently. If there's a goal, if there's something you want, don't let anything, anybody, any circumstance, any condition, any weather pattern keep you from consistently delivering to the marketplace.
And now the goals have changed. I'm no longer looking to become a surgeon. I'm looking to have a franchise. With 500 franchisees in the next six to seven years. That's the goal.
Some people have already said it's impossible. They don't think it's. You can't do that without private funding, without venture capital.
I think those will be the same people that show up in a few years, and they'll watch the waves, they'll sit back and they'll admire.
But those waves are a product of the huge amount of power and force behind them. Look at that. These waves here are the direct impact of billions and billions of gallons of water out there.
And I'm just watching this part here, this beautiful part up here, the waves. But behind that, those waves are an immense amount of power.
Behind every entrepreneur, behind the goals they have, the aspirations, people come and watch those, they think they're great. But behind the amount of.
Determination, drive, ambition, dedication it takes to actually manifest those waves, it's pretty incredible. So I encourage you today, if you're an entrepreneur, if you're a business person, if you run a small business, keep every day same thing. It seems incessant. It seems like it's just the same thing every single day. But those waves are having an impact, and one day, people will come and watch your waves. Take care and have a great day.
