Short advice from Mike Andes (YouTube): he warns small or new lawn-care business owners not to prioritize buying new trucks or taking on debt before securing customers, contracts, and contacts. He stresses that trucks don’t make a business—customers do—and cautions that beginners face long odds unless they plan to be in business for several years.

Getting debt, not opposed to it. Getting new trucks, not opposed to it. But make sure you know you're going to be in business for five or 10 more years. And if you're just getting started, I'm sorry, but the math is against you. The likelihood of you succeeding is low. Contacts, contracts and customers. That's all we're after. Not trucks. You can have all the trucks in the world and you have a lousy business. But if you have all the customers in the world, you will be able to find the trucks to be able to do the work.
