Short YouTube video by Mike Andes offering a practical tip for new landscape business owners: visit local Starbucks and McDonald's to observe which plants and mulches those chains use, because they research and choose low-maintenance, market-appropriate, often native plants that perform well in that area. The speaker emphasizes that chain locations have teams that optimize for low water and low trimming requirements, making them a useful, low-effort source of market intelligence.

Mike Andy's landscape business course. I'm just outside of Starbucks right now and I have a quick tip for you guys. If you are new and wondering what type of plants you should be planting in and around your market, a really easy way to know is go to your local Starbucks, see what type of plants they're planting. As well as McDonald's, they have thousands and thousands of locations around the entire world and they have perfected. They have divisions of people that are literally. Their job is to make sure that the plants they plant are low maintenance, work well, don't require a bunch of water and trimming and all the rest of it. So you can see here right now, I'm in Colorado, a lot of grass plants. I don't even know what type of tree that is. Some different types of plants over there.
But almost all the time they're gonna have low maintenance and it's gonna be stuff that's native that works really well in that market. Then even just like mulch, for example. I know a lot of places use Starbucks, they use cobbles. But it just depends again on the market. But again, if you are brand new, don't know what type of landscape works well as low maintenance and should work well for your market, check out your local Starbucks, check out your local McDonald's. They have figured this stuff out. They've done lots of research. They have teams of people. Literally, their job is to figure out the type of plants to plant in your market. So check it out. It's just a good tip that I want to share today.
