A short conversational transcript of a YouTube video in which Mike Andes advises a business owner to fire a problematic employee (referred to as Moe) and to stop offering mowing services that are unprofitable. The speakers discuss personnel issues (re-hiring, reliance on a driver, maintenance leadership) and specific pricing/cost figures for mowing: competitor pay rates (about $30–$35/hr), customer mowing prices (about $40–$45), and equipment costs (~$10–$12/hr plus ~$25/hr labor), concluding that mowing should be cut.
Questions this video answers
About $30–$35 per hour.
About $40–$45 per job.
Equipment cost ~ $10–$12 per hour plus labor of $25 per hour.
You're gonna let go of your ex. Like, we know this is. This is not like, a matter of, like, oh, it might work out. Like, we know it doesn't work out.
She's been fired, like, three times. Okay? But we always bring her back because we're like, okay, we need the driver. We need.
Like, we fired herself several times. She's probably preventing good employees from staying.
You know, Brandon was all frustrated because she was supposed to be helping him plow. And he's like, man, I might as well just be here myself. But she'll be like, oh, you know, my hernia popped out. I gotta sit in the truck. And she'll sit in the truck on that big property for, like, two hours.
Okay? It's very obvious to me. But why? Why is it. Why is she still here?
Because we can't refine anybody. Like, I started this business and was doing that, going through a divorce. Like, it was crazy. Like, smile. I love chaos. Right?
We gotta get rid of her in order. If we let her go, we gotta let go of the maintenance. And Is she leading the maintenance crew?
Yeah.
Okay, that's.
That's part of the problem.
So let's do it. Like, get rid of Moe. There's competition out here willing to do for 30, 35 bucks an hour. We do not want that work. Like, let them have it. We will never make money on that. If you have that mower, like, those right mowers, and you're mowing grass for 40, $45, you're not making any money. Just because the cost of that thing is 10 to 12 bucks an hour plus your labor of 25, you're not making any money. So instead of us trying to constantly just try to generate revenue and then they just go out the door, get rid of it.
