Taking Up Space: Desire, Confidence, and Owning Your Body

Misty Tripoli shares how a three-month "pleasure tour" in Costa Rica with a partner named Manrique helped her reclaim confidence in her body and sexuality. She connects this personal journey to her teaching of partner dances and the Groove Method, a movement practice designed to release fear-restricted blocks in the body.

So let's keep it real, let's keep it wild, and let's keep it moving. So we were at, ah, the night I met Manrique. And yes, he fit his name perfectly. If there is a picture of a Rico Suave in the dictionary, it would be him, okay? Mayan dude, beautiful dark skin. Like, shorter. He was my height. Stocky, muscular, like the chain on, like, Rico Suave. But he was fine. But he was good. And he knew it. He fucking knew it. But it was funny because when I saw him dancing on the dance floor, I was kind of getting a giggle. Cause I could see that he wanted all the attention. Like, he knew he was fucking fine. And as he's dancing with someone else, he's not looking at who he's dancing with. He's looking out at who's looking at him. And I was just like, this is hysterical. So anyways, he asks me to dance. I'm like, all right, let's do this. So we're dancing, and it's the same thing he's doing with me. And when I dance with someone, I fucking laser eye. Eye contact. Like, forehead to forehead. Let's do this shit. That's how I partner Chance. But I just. He was just watching everybody else watching him. And I was just like. And I finally was like, dude, are you dancing with me or are you performing? Like, which is it? Mofo? And then he focused on me, and it was lovely. And then afterwards, I can't believe he kept dancing with me. Because I was just like, I was starting to get real blunt. Just calling shit. Like, it is like, I'm not gonna. Nah, I'm not gonna tolerate this anymore. If you're gonna dance, we can fucking dance together. That's how this is gonna go down. So I go to the bar and I'm sitting there waiting, drying myself off. Cause you sweat so bad that in between every song, you have to, like, towel yourself off. When you live in the Caribbean, you have to bring extra clothes. Cause you sweat through them. And he comes and sits next to me and, like, I buy You a drink. And I was like, sure, Porn. Buy me a drink. And now I got attitude. Now I got confidence. Before, I would, like, flirt and look, I wasn't confident in myself at all. When it came to men and all of that stuff. I felt like a little girl. So now I feel like a woman, and I'm just, like, calling it like it is. Yes, you can buy me a drink. Damn. You'll buy me a drink. Yeah, you're gonna buy me a drink. So Madriga is sitting at the bar with me, and he's fabulous. And he is. But I'm just inside. I'm just giggling because I can see he's much younger than I am. And he is all about being the hot guy and picking up the hot girl. And clearly he liked older women. And I found this out later that he clearly does. All of his girlfriends were older than him, but he's attracted to older women, which I understand why, because we're fabulous and we have experience. But he was wearing all, like, these gold chains and all this jewelry and just, you know, had the tank top. Muscle tank top on so you could see all his muscles and stuff. And he looked great. But I was like, what? All the neck. I was like, what is all that? I was such a. But I didn't care. And I don't think anyone's ever said anything like that to him in his whole life. And I. He's like, what? All this stuff? And I was like, yeah, I don't understand it. Like, why do you need it? Because it was that total, like, Rico Suave look. The, you know, hair. He didn't have a hairy chest, but it was silky, but all these gold chains and all this. And so he literally just took it all off and put it on the bar. And he's like, is that better? And I was like, holy shit. He's like, actually, it is like. He was. He was far more handsome without it now. He looked like a really handsome man. I was like, oh, Rico suaves. And we just got talking. Next thing that comes out of my mouth is, I don't want a relationship. Just. You need to know that right now. I'm not looking for a relationship. What I want to do right now is I want to explore my sexuality. I do not want a boyfriend. Uh, I just want to explore my sexuality. And that boy about fell out of his chair. He was like. Like he had hit the fucking jackpot. Like, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. I think I just won a prize, like. And he's like, I'm in, dude, sign me up. I'm ready. Let's do this. And I said, okay. And then he said, well, you know, what are you doing tomorrow night? I can come over and give you a massage. And I was like, oh, well, that actually sounds really lovely. And what was really interesting is I actually felt weirdly comfortable with him, that I could trust him as far as, like, he might be the guy that I'm gonna. It was weirdly canny. Like my body just said yes to him. It was really interesting. It was like, this was. God just went, here's the guy you're gonna test it on. Here's the guy you're gonna practice on. I found you a perfect stallion. Here you go. And he was like, hands down, sexual stallion. Like, he came over that night, the next night. We didn't have sex the first night. He spent literally almost three hours massaging me, doing everything I asked him to do, serving my every fucking need. Any. He was literally my slave. Like, he was just like. And then I literally, like jokingly with my friends, I was. He was my sex slave. He would do anything I wanted. Like, he would fulfill any fantasy, anything. And be eager and excited to do it and be full on and just give me his full presence and just, you know, it was awesome. So this is happening now and I'm really starting to see, like my own. I'm feeling this power. And I knew he wasn't like, I would never be with him. I knew this. I kept making that very clear to him along the path, like, because he was starting to get attached. How could you not? I'm fucking fabulous. But he was starting to get like, this means a lot more to me. And there was like starting to get jealousy issues and stuff. And I was like, listen again. And he's like, okay, cool. And then what I decided to do with some of my money is I went on a pleasure tour through Costa Rica for three months. And I took him with me and we just, for three months, literally just went to the most exotic places, had sex every fucking place we could possibly find. Every fantasy I could possibly fulfill. Like just pleasure fantasy. But yeah, he just showed me the Latino drama that came out and I started to get exhausted. Cause I was like, I can't. This pleasure tour is amazing. But he's starting to get so emotionally attached to me that there's a lot of dramatic. I was just like, I will have no drama in my life. I've been clear, I've been honest. And so when that trip ended, that's when our relationship Ended. It had to end. Because I was like, I could keep fucking you, having sex with you, making love to you, whatever you want to call it, exploring my sexuality with you. But it's not fair to you. You really need to be. And you deserve to be with someone that loves you the way that you love them. So we ended that. Boy, did it serve an amazing purpose. And it was fantastic for what? It was absolutely epic. And if he watches, this is going to be like, yeah, that's right, I'm a fucking stallion. But anyways, yeah, that was a fun experience. But now I'm empowered sexually. Like, now I feel. And I'm more comfortable in my body and my sensuality than I'd ever been in my whole life. And it was like a new level of empowerment and owning who I was. And that along with the practices of sitting and embodying the frequency of abundance and creativity and then dancing on top of it. And so I started really super, like, partner dancing more. I was doing zouk and kazumba and all of these other types of. I was just. And give me your hand. I wanted connection and. Because I love connection. But that's why I don't really need a relationship, because I get so much connection through partner dancing. That satisfies me. And then I get to go home alone. Part of this is really important that women. And the message I want to give to women is if you are uncomfortable in your body, if you are trapped, like, if I were to ask you to stand up and start dancing, and you instantly would create resistance. I call it fear restricted movement. Like, if you don't actually give yourself permission to, like, really take up space and you sense that that is a huge signal that there is some block in your body and there's some fear. And this is where a lot of the work that I do with groove. And so if you've come with me along this journey, this far, and you want to know more about groove and how, if you want to start grooving, if you want to start learning what I did, it's not ecstatic dance. It's not all this. It's not airy fairy. I'm not an airy fairy person. You can see this. The airy fairy shit works. It didn't work for me. I need stuff that's practical, simple, logical, straight up. And the way that I approach dance is that it's very practical. There's no choreography. There's no weird shit. There's nothing like that. It's just, what can we do in your body? Where can we work with you? Where you're at right now in your body today, where are you blocked? What needs to flow and helping you do that like and opening up your body in a way that will blow your fucking mind in such a simple way. Where it starts is it's not even just physical is part of it, but you have to understand what's stopping you from physically moving because there's beliefs that are behind it. And so one of the best things you can do, and this is an offer I'm giving to you, is my discover your groove workshop. It's 30 days. I'm going to give this to you absolutely free because I love you and I want you to get it. I want you to free yourself. I want you to get past whatever that is. Really simple. It's only a few minutes every single day to either do a journal activity, something with movement, something you can take a day off if you want to take a day off. You could take two months to do it if you want. But it's a 30 day simple practice that you do with me online. You can't get it wrong. And it's a great place to start, especially if you have any restriction in the way that you give yourself permission to move your body and enjoy being in your body. Cause yeah, as women, most of us are not having a good time in our bodies and I want you to have a fucking great time in your body. So go to bodygroup. Start the discover your groove 30 days free. You've got nothing to lose. In the next phases, we're going to start talking about how I found my land because after I ended that relationship is right when I found my land and the next wave of my life of building my dream home began. So we'll go into that and you know, almost losing all my money again, like the phases of shit that we go through. But that'll be the next video series is finding my land and that's where with you guys depending on where we're at with the episodes. I have like all the before and after photos and showing the process and how I got fucked over and money stolen and I started another relationship with who I thought was my dream man. That's another whole episode because he was so exotic and so wild, but ended up being fucking bipolar and fucking crazy. But a whole other thing. And that's. That was the last relationship of my life thus far that I foresee at any point in time. All right, fierce ones, that's a wrap for today. Thanks for keeping it real and grooving with me. If you're loving this vibe, be sure to subscribe, share and leave a review so that we can keep this movement alive. Remember, this journey is all about you. You owning your own trut, trusting your instincts and living boldly. Stay true, stay wild, and most importantly, keep being unapologetically you. So until next time, let's keep it real.
