The Self-Love Ritual that Changed Everything

Misty Tripoli spent three years dating herself after a breakup, using Byron Katie's work and deepening her salsa practice. She rebuilt World Groove with team members working for free, hired her sister for $200 a week, and filmed her first DVD, "Delicious Dance," before the Body Groove app took off.

Hey, badass. Welcome to Keepin It Real, the podcast where we ditch the nonsense, say it like it is, and redefine what it means to feel good in your body and your life. I'm Misty Tripoli, creator of the Groove Method, and I'm here to help you move, dance, and live authentically and unapologetically.
So if you're ready to break free.
From the societal expectations, embrace your truth, find your own unique groove, you are.
In the right place. So let's keep it real, let's keep.
It wild, and let's keep it moving.
Where were we? Oh, yeah. I had to hire my sister. I could pay her like $200 a week. And then all of these people, because I had no money, my first core team of master trainers actually worked for free for a couple of years. For me, they believed in it that much that they actually like, we'll just do it. They literally got nothing. But they were so devoted and so dedicated. Thank God I can pay their salaries now. Ha. But, yeah, they devoted. These are amazing human beings, and you'll eventually get to meet them through this whole series of what I do. And, yeah, this amazing team of people that's behind the Groove Method and the Royal Group Movement. So another thing that happened. So all these things that are simultaneously happening, like I told you, I started salsa dancing. I became a salsa aholic, like, every night of the week kind of thing. Like, that was my thing. I just loved salsa. And that continued. I probably did that for five years now. It's not so much. But that was one thing that got me through, was going out salsa dancing, like, was heaven. I loved partner dancing and connecting. There was something very special about partner dancing and connection, a deeper connection, like with touch and movement together. So that's another whole side note, probably irrelevant. So simultaneously, what was going on with the breakup? This is all changing another thing that happened. So this is when I started to. Also when I married myself and I fell in love with myself. And I came to a very powerful understanding that when I reflected back on my experience in that relationship, I realized I loved this person in an unhealthy way. In the way that it was like I loved him more than myself. I was more concerned about making him happy every day. It was like my life. And he didn't ask for that. It was just like, I just loved him so much that his needs always came before mine. I just wanted him to be happy, you know? So when we split up and I had this shift again in my consciousness to get me out of it, Thinking that I was so spiritual and I was so aware and conscious and just fucking getting sideswiped and just, you know, humbled again that, you know, there's more to learn. So what really helped me with that also is a book called who Would you Be without yout Story by Byron Katie. I started doing the work by Byron Katie and really asking myself really big questions about what I tell myself and what I'm saying to myself and the lies I tell myself and what like, you know, him cheating on me, what that meant. It meant I'm not lovable. It meant I'm not beautiful. All these things that I had to ask myself if that was really true. And doing the work really altered me a lot. And then I finally realized that I will not enter into another relationship until I've learned to love myself at the same level I loved this other person. Like whatever I want, whatever I need, whatever makes me feel good, like it's my full time job. And I decided I was going to marry myself. I put a ring on my finger, I had a ceremony. I was like, till death do us part. Honey, I'm going to take care of you. I'm going to honor you. I'm going to do what I can to make you happy. In sickness and health, I'm there for you. And so that started a three year literal love affair with myself, dating myself. This is where salsa came in. I would take myself out dancing every night and dance with multiple men and have just the most wonderful time and go home and just, you know, I'm not ent. I don't want a relationship. Mama's learning how to take care of mama and feel good and do the things that make me happy. And I was devoted to it and super clear. No relationship. Like, no. No fucking way. Like, I gotta learn about myself first because I'm just gonna do the same stupid shit again. Like, I'm not. And what's cool is I'm still really great friends with this guy. Like, we still adore each other. Absolutely. But it was the wrong timing, wrong part of the life. And now we're different people, but we still really love and admire each other for who we are. Like, we actually had a really great relationship. Weirdly enough. Like, it was lovely. We really enjoyed each other. And that's why it hurt so bad. Because I was like, oh my God, this guy's so young, but yet this is so right and so delicious. I feel so heard and so seen. And yeah, he would sit and listen to me for hours. He had no problem Just asking me deep questions. And it was lovely. Really had a great time together. So that's why it fucking kicked me so hard, was like, where am I gonna find this? Come to find. I don't need that because I can get that from my fucking self. Like, no one can go deeper than I can with myself. It's awesome. So that was happening all at the same time. I'm rebuilding the World Groove movement. I'm dating myself. Things have turned around, but I'm still not making money. I'm still just barely getting by. I'm making the money on the trainings now, but now I've got people I've got to try to pay. I've got my sister, I've got my bills. Like, I've never had money my whole life. Even when I was making a lot of money, I didn't have money because I was up to here in credit card debt. So everything went to pay, the credit cards. Like, I never actually had a surplus. Like, I'd never seen. Literally hadn't seen more than three zeros in my bank account till I was probably 45. Like, yeah, for me, to see even a couple thousand dollars in my bank account was huge. Huge for me. I thought I was making it when I had a couple thousand. Like, that was my mentality around money, because I'd never had money. The other thing that happened simultaneously is that before all of this went down, there were a couple of guys in Los Angeles that worked for some of the, like, infomercial companies like Guthy Ranker and stuff like that. They produced infomercials and they saw what I was doing and they heard about me and. And so they came to me and approached me and were like, hey, we'd really like to record what you're doing, make a DVD. That's when DVDs existed. They don't exist anymore. We can't even find a DVD player anymore. I've got a stack of DVDs I can't do anything with. They were like, yeah, let's try to do something. Like, there's something here. Like, we think what you're doing is really cool. And we feel like we're selling our soul in the infomercial industry. Cause it's all lies and we want to get out and so let's do it. So I was like, cool. So we filmed a DVD called Delicious Dance. And that was my first Body Groove dvd. Now, Body Groove, this is what's important is the World Groove movement is the movement. It's the education. It's the instructors.
It's the live experience, it's the retreat, it's the method.
Like this. Body Groove is my app. Body Groove is the place where you come where you want to dance with me at home on a daily practice. And you want to feel really good.
In your body and reconnect to who you are.
Like, let dance help wake you up. And if you want to find out the truth about this, go to bodygroup.com and see the testimonials of the people, the things that happen. Getting off medication, losing over a hundred pounds. Like the shit that happens for people. I left my relationship. I no longer have to take medication. It's amazing shit. You can go check it out for yourself. We're going to go back into the story, so we'll continue with that. Because Body Groove is the shit.
And that was a big part of.
Where I made my money. So we'll talk about my shift in consciousness around money and how I did that so that I could allow money to flow to me to which eventually allowed me to build my fucking dream home in the jungle of Mexico. Yeah, some cool shit. And it's simple. It's ridiculously simple. So that's what we'll talk about in the next episode.
All right, fierce ones, that's a wrap for today. Thanks for keeping it real and grooving with me. If you're loving this vibe, be sure to subscribe, share and leave a review so that we can keep this movement alive. Remember, this journey is all about you.
