Day 3️⃣5️⃣: Standing Weird

Max shows the difference between a dog's normal standing posture and a weird one, where paws twist and hips bend. A dog stands weird for two reasons: social discomfort when stressed or unfamiliar, or physical pain. Let them process unless other dogs get aggressive.

This dog is standing weird, and here's why. Hello, my name is Max, and welcome to day 35 of How to Read Your Dog's Body Language Until We Run Out of Dog to Look At. And we are in the week of honorable mentions, and today we're talking about dogs that stand weird. A dog that stands normal is a dog with two paws in front of the other and typically with quite a relaxed body. However, a dog standing weird is when those paws can be twisted, and of course where there is a bit of a bend in the back or the hips to compensate. So here are two reasons why your dog would stand weird. In social situations, this can indicate that the dog is feeling very uncomfortable, just like this dog that we've looked at a few times. This is his first day socializing. This happens when a dog freezes but doesn't feel comfortable enough to move. On the other hand, I don't want you to think a dog staying still is a dog uncomfortable, because this is my dog staying very still when there is this puppy barking its head off at him. You can see that he's standing pretty normal. He's relaxed. Everything in his body is relaxed. This is a confident, comfortable dog. And a side note, if anyone's wondering what to do in these situations, just let the dog process the situation. Unless the other dogs are hyperactive, pushy nightmares, of course, then in those situations, advocate for your dog, make them go away or take your dog away. It's very simple. And the other reason your dog would be standing weird, especially if it's out of context where the dog is not socializing, is because of physical pain. Very simple. Now I will see you tomorrow morning for our final video of the series, but I have decided to finish this with a bit of a twist.
