Day 4️⃣:Dog EnrichmentActivities

Max Randall shows how 15-20 minutes of sniffing work gives dogs the same mental benefit as a one-hour walk. He upgrades the basic food-in-towel puzzle with two versions: a knotted towel that requires pulling and problem-solving, and a layered towel method that extends the challenge across multiple layers.

15 to 20 minutes of the right activity in your flippin' living room can be just as enriching as an hour-long walk. And this is something you're probably gonna wanna use this summer. Hi, my name is Max Randall. Welcome to day 4 of the summer series, collecting a nugget of value each day until you're confidently leading your dog through summer. And here's everything you need to know about enrichment at home. Your dog licking and chewing things is not mentally stimulating whatsoever. Soever, these are activities that can soothe your dog a little bit, keep them busy. But if we're gonna be skipping walks, or our dog's walks are gonna be restricted because they're so hot, we need to find a way of really working a dog easily at home. Otherwise, your dog will get nuts. One activity people tend to do is put food into a towel and roll it up. However, this is a very, very easy activity for most dogs. And it's something that they can do in a matter of seconds or just a couple minutes. But we want dogs to be doing an activity for at least 15 minutes, otherwise it's not really going to work them. Now, before I get to the two things I'm going to teach you, I want you to understand, in a 1-hour walk, dogs will sniff intensely for around 15 to 20 minutes. So that's why on an enrichment level, if we can get the dog doing that at home for 15 to 20 minutes, it it's similar to a 1-hour walk. So the first thing I want you to do is get a towel but roll it up the other way so that we can then tie it in a knot. And what this will do is it will encourage the dog to sniff even more, even longer, maybe some pulling, ripping, and problem solving. It's an activity that can really work the dog and last much longer, but with the same two ingredients. And the next thing is something I absolutely love. This, you just get food on the floor towel on top, food on, towel, food on, towel, and you repeat. As they sniff through this, it rolls the towel up and makes it even harder to find the food. Sniffing for long periods of time and problem-solving is way harder than just licking out a hole. Now, of course, if you want loads of activities you could do at home, including giving your dog a proper job, that is everything we teach on MK9plus.com. Because you seemingly could do everything right all summer, but but now in September your dog is reacting to strangers and nuts. So is it your fault? Is it bad training? Or is summer the culprit? We're gonna learn more about that tomorrow morning.
