Two ways to check if your dog is dehydrated: feel the gums (wet and shiny means hydrated, dry and sticky means dehydrated) and do the skin-tent test on the back or neck (skin snaps back fast if hydrated, slow if not). A dry nose doesn't mean dehydration.

Here are 2 ways of checking if your dog is dehydrated and one little myth at the end about wet noses. First, we check their gums. The gums and lips should be wet and shiny. If they're dry and kind of sticky, like a rubber glove feeling, they are lacking moisture. Now, the other one I want you to try right now is grabbing the skin on your dog's back and neck and letting go and see how quickly it pings back. That's your dog hydrated. Now when they're dehydrated, it'll be much slower because just like the gums, the skin underneath is sticky, so it doesn't ping back. So see what your dog is like right now. So that's what their skin is normally like, and you have something to reference. Now the myth is that you can tell a dog is dehydrated if their nose is dry, but dogs' noses are only wet because they lick them. So that's not an indication. Thank you.
