Neel Dhingra and a guest argue five-year plans don't work. The guest went from near-bankruptcy to $30 million in annual revenue in eighteen months without a detailed roadmap. Both say focusing on what's in front of you now beats rigid long-term planning.
What's your 5-year plan? I don't know, I'm making like $30 million a year right now and I was making $0 and almost bankrupt like a year and a half ago. Like, I have no fucking idea what I'm going to do in 5 years. I just know that I'm not fucking broke anymore, dude. That's pretty cool. It's like, I have zero judgment on somebody who doesn't have a plan. I know some of the biggest businesses that are worth billions of dollars that they don't even have a plan of what they're going to do in a year from now.
You got to figure out what works for you. I don't have one. Like, I know what I want to do today. I want to serve the room. And my thing has been, if I take care of the I'll take care of the work, the work will take care of me.
Also, if you look at the books that talk about a 5 and 10-year plan for a company, those books were written 15, 20 years ago. Those books are bullshit. Like, the world is different now. I promise you, like, it's not going to make or break you.
