A creator explains the barbell strategy: audiences watch either short clips or long-form videos, rarely in between. His formula simplifies niche topics like mortgages and finance so clearly that anyone understands them, using knowledge instead of sensationalism to grab attention.
The consumer was going to this barbell strategy. Basically you think of a barbell, one side of it is short form, one size long form. It's not that people won't watch long videos, but they're just like, selective. They either watch like really short content or they watch really long content. Because you go to Joe Rogan, watch a three hour podcast, the same type of person doesn't have any attention span to watch my video on Instagram. So I figured out the formula for short videos. How do you keep someone's attention? You could do it if you're a chick, you could, you know, show some skin, or you could dance. If you're a dude, maybe you could flex your pecs. I don't know. Like, people do this shit. But I was like, I can't do any of that. What do I got? I got knowledge. I'm going share this knowledge. All I need to do is do it in a way that people will understand it. The formula or what I figured out along the way, which is what led to me being able to reach way more people, is take a topic that is very niche, like mortgage, real estate or finance, and how do we make it appeal to broad people and how do we make it simple for anybody to understand, like even a child could understand. And that's what's worked the best.
