Neel Dhingra argues that many business opportunities begin with non-business, personal conversations (topics like gym, food, fitness, family). He recommends showing relatable, human moments (e.g., posting vacation/time-away content) to invite casual DMs and open conversational threads that later convert to business inquiries in areas like real estate or finance.
You'll be surprised. Like, most of the business opportunities I'm getting are starting with non business conversations first. So you're starting with like the gym. It's like food, fitness, family, whatever, but something that people can relate to. So they're like, yo, that's a good person. We just need to make that same feeling to everybody. So the way to do that is just show we all need time away from work. Right. So you're hesitant to post your time away from work because you're like, yo, I don't want the clients to see. I'm like, on vacation. Well, I'll tell you this, when you're on vacation, the DMs you get are like, bro, that's badass. Like, enjoy the time with your family. High fives. Where are you? Starts more conversations. So you just want to be the person that I can start a conversation with at any point. It doesn't have to be about business. And then all those open threads in the DMS now lead to more conversation. Whenever a question comes up related to real estate or finance, you're the one getting most of those combos now.
