A short YouTube monologue (Neel Dhingra) arguing that most beginners should start with real estate rather than stocks. Two specific reasons are given: (1) leverage — putting little down to control a larger asset multiplies returns, and (2) lower short-term volatility with a long-term upward trend that lets investors ‘sit through the bumps.’

Stocks or real estate. For the majority of you, I'd say start with real estate. Here's why. Number one is leverage. You get to put a little bit of money down, but control a large asset. The returns are based on that large asset, so that allows you to get bigger returns. Number two is volatility. You get in and the prices move up or down in the short run. But over the long haul, generally speaking, it moves from the lower left to the upper right, and this allows you to sit through the bumps and not mess it up.
