Podcast With Desiree Cardosa

In this BBHC podcast episode, host Nick Howarth interviews Desiree Cardosa, a long‑time Scientologist and Flag resident, about her personal health journey and its impact on her spiritual work. Desiree recounts starting a carnivore diet in early 2023, losing about 55 lb, and integrating the BBH (Body, Brain, Health) program into her daily routine. She describes how the diet, fasting, electrolyte supplementation, and one‑meal‑a‑day regimen improved her sleep, energy, cognitive clarity, and facilitated significant Bridge progress, including completing SRD, Cause Resurgence, and advancing toward OT7. The conversation also covers personal hardships—her husband’s death and her son’s intensive care stay—showing resilience through health practices. Desiree highlights the role of mentors (Emily Baker, Nikita, Narconon/Flag staff) and community support, and she advocates for incorporating BBH nutrition data into Scientology schools. The episode critiques ultra‑processed foods and the US food industry, shares success anecdotes (cancer patient, weight‑loss transformations), and ends with a strong call to action for listeners to join the program, reach out for personal guidance, and help spread the health initiative within the Scientology community.
Chapters
Alrighty then. So then, how are you doing?
I'm great.
Excellent. Welcome to our BBHC podcast.
Thank you so much for having me.
You're welcome. Let me just get my screen right so you can see me properly. All right, cool. So, um, when you, when you started our program, I mean, what, what was it that you were trying to handle at the time?
Well, what I was trying to handle at the time was I had done carnivore for maybe 8 months, something like that. And I haven't lost huge amounts of weight, but I also did not weigh myself. I had no confront when I started carnivore. Just one day I just decided, okay, I'm going to start. That was February of— it was February 1st, 2023. And then fast forward it until, I think, January or February 2024. Most people that will see this podcast know I lost my husband during that time. Oh, my gosh. Some people may know that my son suffered a massive health crisis, okay? And we were in the hospital for 6 weeks. He was in the pediatric intensive care unit. It was like a very stressful time. During that whole time, I was fine, okay?
Okay.
But when we came home, what happened was when we came home, we missed all the holidays and stuff like that. And I personally didn't really care about that. I had no food cravings anymore. Okay. But I went to start back on carnivore. Okay. And my stomach was bothering me. I'd never had that before. And it was really odd. I knew about BBH. I had friends that had done it. I had a totally different concept of what it was, and I had back off. Okay.
Wow.
And then all of a sudden, I thought it was something totally different. And I've done literally, you name it, you could name any diet. And I've done it, okay? And maybe several unsuccessful times. And I always had so much chatter going on up here, right? So much case associated with it. As you well know, the reason I asked to do this podcast with you is to talk to Scientologists in particular. I just finished a lot of Bridge, okay?
Right.
And there is a massive connection between BBH my case going away to where it's at right now and my Bridge progress.
Wow.
I live here at Flag. Um, I've been here for 8 years. I spoke at graduation Friday night for Cause Resurgence. Okay.
Wow.
It was amazing.
Nice.
Yeah. So hopefully some of the people that are watching this podcast, because this particular one is just for us as Scientologists, um, hopefully some of those people saw me at graduation and the ones that didn't, that's great. That's totally fine too. But I couldn't talk about this at graduation the way I'm talking about it with you now.
Yeah, yeah, of course.
Right. And I have to date lost about 55 pounds. Okay. I started on February 18th, right after the LRH birthday event. Okay. And I've had some periods of what I would call maintenance. Okay? Because of Bridge, right? It wasn't like I went to Nikita, who's like, oh my God, my best friend, your daughter. Okay? My absolute, like, oh my God, she's super amazing and always been a cheerleader and just has made this journey really easy for me. Like, I have a lot of friends who've done BBH, but it was Emily Baker, okay, who's my very best friend. She and I had struggled with weight forever. We have really similar types of things, right? She was very, very successful at keto before. I never tried keto.
Okay?
I couldn't figure out the macros and the micros, anything like that. I was like, no, thank you.
Yeah.
Okay? So, like I said, I had a period where I just wasn't feeling well. And I'll just tell you something. My ruin was not that I didn't feel well because I did. I was overweight and— but I had given up. I can tell you that 100%. I was like, you know, I'm happily married. I have a great kid. You know, you kid yourself, right? You're just like, oh, you know, your case comes in and you're like, oh, you know, you don't have to have that to be happy. And, you know, I'm Italian. We love going out to dinner. And, you know, I'm sorry, I'll say this as a Scientologist too. Occasionally I would drink wine. Okay. But on carnivore, of course, I never did that. But occasionally, like, you know, every few months or something, I would have like a no-sugar cocktail or something, right? But I had a lot of case going on that I felt like I had to calm down. I do not care about that at all. Matter of fact, I don't put anything in my body except coffee. I know eventually, Nick, I know, I know, I know you'll handle me on that. I can't even read the whole thing yet.
Oh my God.
I can't.
Yeah.
It's my—
like, it's so funny.
It's so much having And then, you know, I had a huge sweet tooth until I did carnivore. I could care less now.
Right. That's great. Yeah.
I could care less. Carnivore really helped me. I have to say that. That got me— my good friend Caroline Spages, I know she's watching. She's going to be watching. Okay. I had no idea that she did this. Okay. Right. She is the one who told me to look at carnivore. I looked at— I didn't like meat before.
Right. Okay.
Now, oh my God, after being on BBH, what I crave now, I crave vegetables, I crave nutritional yeast, I crave— it's crazy. Like, I crave my electrolyte drinks. Okay. I drink a lot of electrolytes throughout the day, and I crave, like, good steak, you know, bacon, sometimes eggs. All this stuff.
I mean, obviously, your body's, you know, got to a stage where it's gotten healthy and it knows what's good for it, you know, which means, you know, like a lot of people's bodies are out of control and their bodies control them. You know, they're not in control of their bodies and hence they're like, yeah, you know, I've got to have a dessert and I've got to have this and I've got to have that. It's like, no, you don't. Your body is basically dictating How it's going to be, and, and you're going to have to live in this body that's, that's not doing so well. It, you know, a spoiled body is like a spoiled child, you know. It, it tells you what to do and you lose complete control of it, you know. And you, and you, and you think you have control of it, but you don't.
For me, what you're saying, like, I've referred to you every time somebody asks me that's a Scientologist, when they ask me like what it is, and I just say, look, Nick, Nikita's dad, Who developed the program, and I didn't know this at the time. You know, you and I have talked since, but I said they are data series evaluators for the body.
Right.
Okay.
Yeah.
And I knew that instinctively when I started doing the program. Right. So Emily got me on the program. She started about a month or so before me. One of the things that I love so much is that Nikita is like, okay, what do you have going on in your life? And I was like, I have this, I have that, and I'm like. I really— she said, look, you should really take a look at your life and you should— I'm not saying start in 2 months, but like, you know, if you're not totally prepared, don't start tomorrow, right? Because you order the supplements, you know, and I'm an organizational person and I'm on the go all the time. We live in Palm Harbor, so I'm 20 minutes away from the base, right? So when I leave for the day, I leave with all my stuff. And I was on SRD, okay, with my second twin because I had such big gaps. Right? And one of the things is that, you know, when your body is controlling you, you think it's you. You lose sight of the thetan. Okay, I just finished Cause.
Yeah, yeah.
All right.
Absolutely.
And I had— oh my God, like, you as a thetan are in control. But if you're putting all of these things in your body like I was— processed foods, GMOs, Lots of sugar. I'm sorry, guys, it's a drug. It's a drug and it takes you over. Most of the people who would watch this would know that my husband and I, we started Narconon as pioneers. We put it, the entire tech in the country of Brazil as pioneers. I was a brand new Scientologist. Okay. My husband was from Brazil. And it's very funny because there was one time When my husband and I were taking our son off of some processed foods, not so much processed stuff, but Jenny Lane really helped me. Jenny Lane is a huge success, one of my super good friends. And we were putting our son on an anti-inflammatory diet. He didn't even have a weight problem then. He just had some foods that weren't good for him. Right. And it was day 1 or day 2. Jenny told me, she said, Desiree, It's gonna get ugly, and if it does, I want you to call me. I want you to text me, whatever.
It did.
And Jenny talked to our son. I remember it was like, I don't know, 9, 10 o'clock, and I just remember putting him up on the kitchen counter, and he was crying and all this stuff because, you know, he had parasites and stuff like that. And afterwards, my husband said to me, he goes, thank God.
Yeah.
We've taken so many people off of heroin.
Yeah.
I said, yeah, thank God. I mean, it was like psycho, psycho.
I mean, these foods are designed to be addictive. These foods, these ultra-processed foods are designed to be addictive and to not fill you up and to keep you hungry. And this is how they're designed. It should be a crime. You know, it's actually— It should be a crime.
And especially our kids. That's the thing, Nick, I want— I'm so passionate about. I want to get you guys into every school, starting with the Scientology schools. You know, I taught for many, many years. I taught at Delphi here. They have a great, like, you know, nutrition unit and stuff like that that I taught as a seminar. But I put extra stuff in it. You know, I put— yeah, you know, but the data that I have now, I am so convinced. And this is why I want all Scientologists to hear this, okay? I am so convinced if I would have done this years ago, okay, I would be on OT7 right now.
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. I'm glad you say that because it, it has— we've sped up.
This is my passion.
I know, it's, uh, my passion.
I mean, I know, I want you guys to be so much more well known.
Yeah, that, that is really what's needed. And I, and I think, um, That's the next ramp-up of this whole program. We've been going for, what, about 13 years now? And it— My God, I didn't even know. Yeah, it ramps up and it ramps up. And I think it's on the brink of really getting out there and into people's homes and becoming a household name. I don't want it to be a Weight Watchers or anything like that because it's not a program like that. Oh my God.
This is—
Yeah, I mean, this is a program that really gets you your body back. That's our slogan. I mean, get your best body back. And you remember when you had your best body. You remember when you were 16, 17, 18, even maybe in your early 20s, and you felt invincible. And that was your best body.
Yeah, but I wasn't comfortable in that best body. I can tell you that. I was— this is the difference, Nick. This is the difference. Do you know how I had my best body at that age? I started dieting when I was like in 8th grade, and I remember drinking diet soda for an entire week. An entire week.
Wow.
Yes. And then I remember when I was in— I never even drank coffee, right? I remember when I was in college, my grandmother bought me this really nice like espresso, like cappuccino machine and stuff like that. I used it one time. I might as well have had crack cocaine. Okay. I never had coffee again until I was like in My mid-thirties, when my husband and I finished Brazil and went to Arrowhead, and they had a big sign up in Div 6. I was the 60 supervisor, right? And they're like, no coffee for Desiree. I would rip it down. I was like an addict when I got there. It was hilarious, right? But my point that I really want to say clearly is that all I did was starve myself. I felt crazy. I would— I remember one time thinking like I would have like a mental breakdown. I have a couple couple friends that are like that too, okay? Yeah, that would lose their shit, okay? Because it's the body and it's, you know, it's encroaching on the thetan and it's designed to do that. And do you think you're on the Bridge moving when you're like that? You're not. You're not.
Well, I mean, if you look at, if you look at the way the Bridge is set up, I mean, you know, LRH did this, most of it in the '60s, and, and the food at that time was not what it is today, you know, you know. And when he— I mean, he put research into it to just get the body in good enough shape for you to be able to continue on the bridge and have the spiritual freedom. But a lot has changed since then. The food that we're eating is poison. And it is affecting people.
Here in the US, it's terrible.
I know. US, I'm telling you now, it's almost like a— it's a strong word, but it's almost like a terrorist organization, the food industry in the US. But the thing with it is that now there's certain other things you have to do to be able to get up the bridge. I mean, we've had guys that can't get on the bridge because they have this brain fog. And brain fog is usually, 90% of the time, diabetes of the brain. The brain relies on a constant flow or supply of supplements and oxygen. And if it's not getting that, it's like you can put your hands around somebody's neck and squeeze, and they'll be dead within a minute or 2. You can do that with your leg, and it'll live for hours. So it has nutrients, but the brain doesn't store nutrients. And this is what happens. So you go into session, and then you can't think with it. You can ask a question, but you can't think with the question because you have this brain fog. And it has to do with the body.
Yeah.
The man is made up of 3 parts— Body, Satan, and mind, you know. And what's sitting there holding the cans, and what are you experiencing this whole auditing session through, is the body, you know. So, um, it, it's, it's not like you're focusing only on the body, you, you— but it is something you have to focus on in order to become spiritually free.
That's a very common misconception. Yeah, you know, too much body, too much body, too much body. I fell into that trap too because But mine was such a big failed purpose, you know, such a big failed purpose because I tried all these things and I thought it was just discipline, right? I'm sorry, I had some really damn good discipline. Do you know how many times I've done the master cleanse? Oh my God, so many times. My husband actually said to me, if you do it again, I'm not doing it with you. And like, maybe stay somewhere else.
You're on your own. Yeah, yeah.
Like, go get a room at FH or something.
I don't know.
But because I would get like, you know, I had good results from it and I felt better. But guess what? The minute I would go back to eating something that I wouldn't normally eat, because at first I had like, I just wanted fresh, good foods. We were living in Brazil, right? So the food was very good. And but the minute I would go back, it would be like somebody at my Narconon taking a hit.
Wow.
Taking a line. Yeah, it was exactly like that. I will never forget because the last time that I really did it, I did it to come back to the US for a wedding. And of course, you know, you have to, you know, you wanna when you come back, right? So went to the wedding, did all that stuff, was here in the US with my family for like a month, right? I had a little bit of stuff I wouldn't normally have, a little bit of stuff. And then I just remember, done.
Yeah, worse than ever.
I look back at those pictures from the wedding to a few months later, and that was way long ago, and I was way smaller, right?
Right.
Um, but over the years of doing that, you know, I don't care if anyone knows I'm 55. I have an almost 14-year-old. My husband was 59. Okay, but You know, over the years of doing that, not only spiritually do you give up because the bank is winning.
Yeah.
It's controlling that body. And I'll tell you something, turning the majority of that off just with meat, butter, and fat, okay, was amazing for me. But there was so much more, and I'm so thankful to Emily, um, for her Because she had her considerations too, because she had done carnivore for so long, big advocate for carnivore. And I, I, you know, the data that I've gotten for you from you guys on a daily basis, especially all the stuff you've been sending me lately, is like I went on course at Flag.
Yeah, totally. I mean, that was my next question. That was my next question. So how do you feel that the, the KRC that you get For, uh, you know, food you're supposed to be eating and the body and how— and its mechanisms that you got from us. How do you feel that that helped you with getting everything under control?
100%.
100%.
The minute I started— because, you know, every time you start a program, like when I started carnivore, I was completely thinking that, um, I was gonna feel like shit for 2 weeks. I was gonna have to push through. That did not happen to me. I actually did it correctly. I did the fat loading. I don't even know what you call it. And again, I didn't have the confront that I did. Like when I worked with Nikita, she's like, no, you got to weigh yourself. And I'm like, fine, because she was such a friend from the beginning and I trusted it, right? And I got prepared and did all that, right? Plus, I'll organize. She explained some things to me. Amazing. Okay.
Well, I mean, amazing.
I felt better than I'd ever felt right away. And I always— I'm very in tune with my body, but I'm so much more in tune now because more things turned off. Like, I can tell you this lifestyle— I go out to dinner quite a bit. I was at the FH twice yesterday, right? No, I went— I ate at the Hibiscus for lunch. Okay. They totally know. They like, oh, your usual? Yes.
Okay.
I can't even eat half of it, Nick. It's amazing to me. My favorite thing is one meal a day. And then also my really favorite thing is fasting, but fasting the way you guys taught me. I just feel so amazing. I get up naturally. I get up before my alarm every single day. This morning, I was trying to sleep until 6:30 because my son had something.
I had—
we had to leave early this morning.
And 5:30. That's interesting.
I sleep so well. And I can say every single— anything that would come up, okay, I would, you know, I messaged Nikita like crazy, right? She's now checking in with me. How's it going? Because it's going great. You know, I have 30, 40 more pounds to lose. I don't know. I don't care about the number. I care about, you know, how I feel, how I look, whatever. So that's why I'm like, whatever, I'm just not done. But I've actually, in my universe, I went to— I went to the ship. Sorry, I finished SRD as a PC, went to the ship, went to case cracking auditing. No, prior to going to the ship, case cracking auditing with Miles Borland. Oh my God. Came back, went to the ship, came back, finished that, and then said, okay, I want to do cause. Right? And literally, the DFP had to— and my reg, Alyssa, had to write up something because my CS was like, she's doing great. And they're like, okay, but here you go. And then they called me and said, you know, you have good lawyers, you can do cause, right? They wanted me to do something else. I'm like, no, right? And that was the final piece for me, being so far out away from the body running it from such a distance. I am 100% convinced if I would not have been on BBH having this level of success, I would not have had those cognitions.
That's right. Or even have gotten on course, for that matter, you know. I mean, you know, I mean, getting through that medical in itself, you know, your blood pressure's got to be in range. There's a whole lot of things that have to be in place. We do cause or superpower, you know, and that's the thing. I mean, I have a guy who had cancer at the beginning of the year, like liver cancer, that they'd sent him home. And they'd sent him home to die because he'd literally had everything that they could do for him. This is now the conventional medicos. And he came on our program. And I put him on a little special little mootie. Mootie is just an African word for— an African medicine. So we put him on this little medicine. And he was literally sent home to die. His tumors were growing. They were doubling every week. And it stopped on our program. And we put him through a long fast. And he's currently at flag on Superpower, this guy. Oh my God. Yeah, yeah. So this is a guy from New Zealand. He's actually a South African who lives in New Zealand. And I mean, there are so many natural and simple ways of handling seemingly complicated issues. The whole health industry has become extremely complicated, and it's not. It's like it's too formidable for you to understand. So we'll handle it for you. Just pay us. And there is a place for that.
Yeah, it's changing abundance.
Yeah, there is a place for that.
It's an abundance with you guys.
Totally.
It is—
I agree.
It's amazing. I just personally want to say to all people that are going to be watching this, okay, whoever's had success, okay, tell everybody. Anybody who may not have had success and like, okay, whatever, and wants to get back on, reach out to me. I'll help you. I'm super organized. Like, I have it down. Okay, it's a passion for me. We'll help you to get on the program. Okay, I'm so happy when I look around Flag. I have several friends that, you know, got on the program and I can see how much better they're doing. Oh my God. And I want to say too that I have friends that didn't have like a lot of weight to lose. Like Nina, if you're watching, um, one of my good friends and selectees, and she's in Southern California and she is so hatted in natural health But she had a couple of things that she just couldn't handle. And she did the program. She lost whatever weight she needed to lose, like, I don't know, 10, 12 pounds. I could be wrong. Nothing. And she handled those issues. And for her to get a gold seal from her was like incredible. Caroline Spages just went back and did amazing and like called me and said, hey, give me some tips for fasting, right? Not everybody can fast 7 days. Okay, who cares?
No. Yeah, yeah.
You don't have to really.
I mean, if you want to, you can. Yeah. I mean, if you want to, if you want to fast for 7 days, we can help you, you know? But I mean, we don't expect—
No, I know. But some people just feel like they don't do well on it. Like, yeah, but I have it down and I love it. Like, tomorrow I start because this is like, I'm routing onto Student Hat. I'm routing onto my training for Auditor's Day. Right.
Nice.
So like I say, I finished SRD, I finished Cause Resurgence and routed into my training all within 3 days. Because they finally found me a PC to finish, right?
Wow. Holy moly.
This was this last week, right? So I've been obviously very busy, and there's times that I have to, like, eat like a second meal or something. And the thing that I really wanna say is that, like, I never have the mental stuff ever going on, ever, ever, ever. Okay? I will have, like, I'll make one of the, like, desserts. And the first time I did that, I thought, oh, You know, it might be like, feel like I'm cheating. I don't. I can eat like this for the rest of my life because my blood sugar is completely stable. My energy is through the roof. I'm exterior to my body. I run the body. And the thetan got unburdened.
Yeah. Yeah.
And it's hand in hand with bridge progress. I watched it in the SRD course room.
Yeah. I mean, you know, we've handled management terminals who— I mean, these guys work hard. They don't sleep a lot. They don't eat well. They don't eat well, mostly because they work a lot. And when they've been in the sea org for a long time, they get— there's got to be some body issues that are going to come up. And we put these guys through the program. And if we could just get these guys onto something like this, All of them. You know, I— can you imagine the productivity will, you know, that, that they'll be able to—
Oh my God. You know that I'm telling you, I was coming, I was walking in the HGC the other day, coming up through the stairs. By the way, take the stairs now. Okay. And on the personality test, you know how they, you know, one of the questions is, you know, provided the distance isn't too great, would you prefer to, you know, drive? Hell yeah. You know, a lot of times though, here in Florida, because it's just so damn hot. Okay.
Yeah, yeah.
But inside the building, I just fly up the stairs, I fly down the stairs. And, you know, the somatics that I had before that bothered me, I had a lot of inflammation in my feet, and I was very concerned about that flaring back up on cause.
Okay.
Because, you know, you're moving your body around.
Yeah.
Sailed through, through, through. Perfect. Never had any problems. But one of the reasons why is because now I have been taken on such beautiful gradients, and I was able to cognite on that doing my bridge about gradients. I was one that was just like, I'd have everything yesterday. I mean, like, yesterday. I even had, like, Gavin. I'm sure some of the people watching this will know who Gavin Potter is from the Free Winds.
Yeah.
Years ago, years ago, I was at a Grant Cardone seminar that he invited me to. This is way back years ago at PAC. Grant was still living in LA, working over his garage in Beverly Hills. And Gavin took me out and he said, Desiree, I know what it is with you. And I'm like, what? What is it? You know? And he goes, nothing moves fast enough for you. And I'm like, yes, right? Well, I looked at life like that, so I was constantly disappointed. I looked at weight loss like that. How much can I lose? Can I lose a pound a day?
You know?
Oh my God. So, like I said, I've done like a lot of stupid stuff. And this is so Beautiful, gradiently.
It's so beautiful. What would you, um, you know, what would your advice be to someone who's considering doing the program and he's on— he's like kind of on the edge at the moment, standing on the cliff?
Don't walk. Yeah, do it. Reach out to me. I'm on Facebook. I don't care. I'll help anybody. This is like a huge big deal to me. After I've done these, you know, intensive steps on the bridge All through, I started like I say, okay. Carnivore was nothing compared to this, but it really helped me on SRD. Okay. I started carnivore and then I started SRD. Almost date coincident.
Yeah. So so carnivore works. You know, the reason why carnivore works is is because it it you're removing the sugars and the carbs. That that's it's it's not the meat. It's the removal of the sugar and the carbs. So you automatically start to feel better. And a lot of people cannot digest fiber because their gut bacteria is so messed. So carnivore is something we use regularly on our program when someone is having trouble with bloating or whatever it might be. Then we put them on a whole carnivore thing until—
Yeah.
And then we start introducing fermented vegetables and so on. And we get them back onto the vegetables because you have to have vegetables. You cannot live off meat alone. You cannot live off a carnivore diet for a long time. It's like you'll have deficiencies. However, it's better than the ultra-processed food diet.
Oh my God, absolutely.
What we call the SAD diet, the Standard American Diet.
Oh, yes, SAD.
Yeah, the Standard American Diet. So there's definitely a place for carnivore, and it helps so many people. But not, not good for chronic use. You know, you've got to eat all the things that you have that your body needs. It won't operate.
I want to say one thing about that, Nick, because, you know, when I stopped doing carnivore, it wasn't like all at once, because when my son was in the hospital, my friends were bringing me food and stuff like that, and I just basically ate one meal a day. And you can basically, you know, I had some unrefined carbs and things like that every once in a while, but nothing bad. But I'll tell you something, um, once you really go off, all hell breaks loose.
Oh, wow.
Okay? I do not feel like— like I had— remember I sent you— no, I sent Nikita a picture of those Evolve, like, chocolate, uh, hazelnut cups, right? Um, they don't have any sugar, they're sweetened with monk fruit, whatever. So I ate Like one of those, right? Or a couple of those. Let's not lie. And Nikita's like, yeah, on the losing portion, we just don't have like nuts. And then, you know, she had it, man. I'm like, fine, right?
