Stop keeping things out of guilt. A decorative stand sat unused for six months, a cookie jar never got opened. Be grateful for gifts, then let them go if they don't actually work in your life.
A common hurdle for people when they're organizing is letting go of things out of guilt. And we all have that challenge. I have that challenge as well. But you've got to keep in mind that if you want to hit your goals, you've got to make some hard decisions. And if you're really not using something, you've got to let it go. Someone gave this to me because they didn't have a use for it. Tried the last six months to try to figure out how I want to use it. It's really nice. I've tried using it with fruit or to display pastries, and I just don't need it. I already have things in my home for those purposes. So I'm going to let this go. And it's not because I'm not thankful for it. It just doesn't serve a pur. And I want to make sure that my house is organized, so I'm going to let this go. Another common reason people feel guilty is they buy things and they don't use them as they intended. I bought this cookie jar because I thought for sure my family needed a cookie jar. And it's pretty. It goes with the aesthetic of my kitchen. But we didn't use it. So I'm either going to repurpose it or give it to someone else who actually will display cookies and use it. Stop feeling guilty and go after your goals and let go of the guilt.
