Today in my presentation I highlighted that managing people is the Achilles heel within family farming businesses. Therefore good people skills are required to ensure that the business continues to move forward. In the presentation today I provide a number of recommendations purely circulating around the best ways to engage, attract and retain quality people within your team and that involves becoming the employer of choice. A couple of key aspects of becoming the employer of choice is having staff completely involved within the business. That means having them involved throughout the strategic plan, understanding the business goals, establishing core values. That's extremely powerful when it comes to creating a very strong working culture because it's hard to fight against something that your team helped create. Once that's established I really think communication from a daily and weekly basis is absolutely critical to help promote the how in the business. With the values and the strategic planning in place you understand the why and the communication is a very important element to help produce the how.
