Prayer works best as real conversation with God, not empty repetition. The speaker critiques praying just to fill time and points to the Lord's Prayer as a model for closing the distance between you and God through genuine communion.
Chapters
Prayers are about conversation, and it's not how long you have a conversation that matters, it's the content. You ever talk to somebody for like 60 minutes, and at the end of that conversation you're like, what did we just talk about? A lot of times that's like how our prayers are. We just go into the presence of God just rambling. Scripture calls it vain repetition, just to fill up the time to say that we did it. But I've been saying this statement, and I'm going to say it here. That has challenged my view of prayer, and it's resonated with a lot of people that pray. Until you start praying, you could be in your prayer room for 60 minutes but only have prayed for 5 of those. Prayer begins when distance closes between you and God, which is why the Lord's Prayer helps us to step into his presence by acknowledging he is Father. That alone should close the distance between you and God. Our Father, who art in heaven. You might be in heaven, but the fact that you're my Father makes you close.
