Marriage is hard because it's a spiritual battleground, not because of money or in-laws. The speaker ties a husband's love for his wife to Christ's sacrifice for the church, arguing the enemy attacks what reflects God. Jesus promised the gates of hell won't prevail against the church, and that same protection extends to marriage.

Marriage is hard, but not for the reasons you think so. It's not because of the expensive weddings or the in-laws. It's not because of the house or the children. You see, marriage is hard because it's one of the two things that the enemy has dedicated its existence to fighting. In Ephesians 5, Paul juxtaposes two things that will help you have a better understanding of marriage. Ephesians 5:25, speaking for the husbands here, says, husbands, love your wives just as Christ also have loved the church and gave himself for her. If you understand that the church will have persecution, then you will understand that marriage will also be persecuted. Let me explain it this way. The relationship between the church and marriage is because those are the two institutions that God put in place to reflect him. And the enemy always wants to fight wherever God plants. But there's hope. Jesus, when he was talking to Peter, said, upon this rock shall I build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail. That goes for your marriage too. Jesus says that these two have now become one flesh and what God has put together, let no man separate. That goes for your marriage too. So yes, marriage is hard and it's heavy. His yoke is light and he's strong. So hold on to God and watch how he keeps your relationship together. Peace.
