How to battle through the Information Age

Cody explains how too much information paralyzes decisions, especially for young entrepreneurs. He recommends picking two mentors: one who shows the path to success, another who warns of pitfalls. He credits his real-estate wins to limiting his information sources and staying focused.

Hey YouTube, this is Cody. Today's video is all about being able to make decisions quickly, and it stems from a problem that I encountered getting started. I'm seeing a lot of people that are encountering this. We are in the information age right now. There's too many touch points online, there's too much information, and it prevents us from making decisions quickly, and that hinders our ability to go get deals. That said, I'm going to be sharing a little bit of something I learned from Grant Cardone in Florida when I met with him last year. And it's about when you're picking your mentors, you should have two mentors. Number one is someone who shows you where to go, and the other is where not to go. And the idea behind this is you don't want too many touch points. If you are watching Robert Kiyosaki and then you're watching Dave Ramsey, you can get paralyzed. Dave Ramsey's going to say all debt's bad debt, and for a lot of folks, that is true. If you're listening to Robert Kiyosaki, and that's the model that I follow, but either way you go, if you're looking at both of them right now, you're going to get paralyzed because you're going to be stuck in the middle. They are polar opposites, and it's going to be hard to make a decision because you're going to want to go the debt-free route. You're like, well, if I leverage, I can go quicker. So that said, there's a lot of information out there, and you should really be picking two mentors. One who is your mentor of where you're looking to go, and then other acts as a lighthouse. And I got this reference from Grant Cardone. The lighthouse— if you're in a boat and you go directly towards that lighthouse, you're going to hit rocks. You're gonna get shipwrecked, and that shows you where the land is. You don't want to go there if you're in a boat. That said, you have one mentor who shows you the place you want to go, and they're going to show you how to get to your goals, your dreams. You're likely going to align with them. And the other one is going to serve as a mentor, a person who shows you where not to go. There's pitfalls in business and real estate, and there's things you need to avoid. And so having someone like that in your space, not only just showing you what to do, but what not to do. Even that person who shows you what not to do can be more valuable than the person who shows you what to do. So that said, it's an information age. There's a lot of information, and the mind's like a parachute. If it's too open, you're gonna fall. So you need to keep it a little bit closed-minded. Stick in your lane as far as information. Don't get your hand in too many pots because it's going to get confusing. It did for me, and I'm creating this video really because I'm speaking to my younger self. If you're in your teens, early 20s, even if you're in your 30s, I mean, I know that's older than myself right now, but if you're younger in experience and you're getting started, understand that if you're trying to focus on too many information sources, at least for me, it got confusing and it slowed me down. And my ability to make decisions quickly is what has gotten me to where I'm at today with my apartment units and being able to raise capital and borrow money and convince sellers to do seller financing. That said, limit some of your information sources. Don't try and just be an open book to everybody because it's going to make it difficult for you to make decisions for yourself. That said, that's today's video. I hope you got some value out of it. Again, I'm just trying to create this video to speak to my younger self or people that are a little bit newer or younger in experience. And I hope this helps. Let me know in the comments if you found this valuable, and I'll see you guys next time.
