Hello, my friends. Welcome to the very first episode of A New Life podcast of 2023. Can you believe Christmas is over? New Year's is over. And here we go into this new year. Are you ready, friends? Let's go. Now is the time that many people decide on a New Year's resolution. Losing weight and getting in shape are always on the top of the list for most people. What about you? What is your New Year's resolutions? What if I said or suggested that you skip resolutions or altogether this year? I have not defined one New Year's resolution, and I'll tell you why. Did you know that over 80% of resolutions are dismissed by the third week of January? That's a statistic. That is a known fact. So why would we get into this first, the first part of the year, knowing that we're most likely going to fail? We have an 80% chance of failure. So you know what? Let's not do that. First of all, I want to talk about setting goals instead of resolutions. And I want to define 10 reasons why goals are often not reached. And I'm going to walk through that together. First of all, if you set a goal, oftentimes you stay stuck in your comfort zone. You're not willing to stretch yourself. That is usually out of fear, anxiety, or lack of confidence. The next tip is lack of consistent action. Basically, that means you don't have a plan. You haven't mapped out how you're going to reach your goals and set all of your dreams into motion. The third point is a negative mindset. Wow. That probably either strikes a nerve with you or you know someone in your life who is like that. No matter what is happening in the world, they're very, very negative. And whatever everyone else has or whatever other people are doing, they just can't wrap their head around the fact that they could be doing all of these awesome, successful things, too. So that negative mindset a lot of people can't stay focused is this you? Do you have those squirrel moments every day or you go down that rabbit hole, you just can't stay focused. That's another reason why goals are not really reached and you're doing too many things. You haven't learned the art of saying no. You haven't identified that. You know what? No is a complete sentence. No means no. Because, friends, if you stretch yourself too thin in your life. Every time you say yes to something, you're saying no to something else. So you have to be very careful about what you get yourself into and just don't stretch yourself too thin. Procrastination Living in fear. You listen to negative people, you will become like the five people you spend most of your time with. So if you work in an office and there are five people around you and they are negative every single day, chances are you're going to be just like them. So surrounding yourself with good, positive people will help you in reaching your goals. You lack confidence, you don't believe in yourself, and you're really good at making excuses. Now, I want to share with you 5 strategies to reach your goal. First of all, be very specific and clear about what your goal is and define the why behind your why of wanting to reach that goal. For instance, if your goal is to lose weight, well, why do you want to lose weight? How much weight do you want to lose? If the reason is just I want to lose 10 pounds before an event coming up this summer. The problem with that thinking is by the time the event comes and goes, you may reach the goal. But right after the event, you're going to go back to your old habits and most likely gain not only 10 pounds, but maybe 20 in return. So be specific and clear and define the why behind the why of your goal. The next item is give your goal a deadline. Give it a date, give it a marker. Set that in motion. Because once you give your goal a deadline, that's when you can create an action plan and reverse engineer your goal. Keep a daily planner. Record your progress. Keep a reminder of your plan. If you don't keep a daily planner and write about it every single day. Write down in your planner in your journal what you're doing every day to work towards that goal. If you don't do that on a daily basis, you're going to forget about your goal. Then June's going to roll around and you'll be like, oh yeah, that's right, I forgot I was going to do that this year. Oh well, better luck next time, right? And create a daily routine. I did a podcast a while back on the importance of a daily routine, and I would encourage you to go back and find that and listen to it. It is really important that you create a daily routine because creating good habits. If you create the good habits, you will create success. Success comes from creating good habits. The next thing I want to share with you is don't forget to be so specific about your goals and make them measurable. If a goal isn't measurable, you will have no way of knowing whether or not you've accomplished your goal. And don't forget to celebrate along the way. As you're reaching the little milestones on your way to the big ending of the goal, take some time to celebrate and be proud of the accomplishment that you've had. So, going back to the weight loss example, if losing weight is part of your goal, you have to know how much weight you want to lose and by when do you want to lose that weight. For instance, if you want to lose, let's say 20 pounds by May, what you would need to do is figure out how many days are from now until May. Divide that by the amount of weight that you want to lose. That's going to give you the amount of weight that you need to lose every single day to be able to reach your goal by May. That is what I call reverse engineering your goals. Lastly, there are eight life pillars in which you should be setting your goals. Now, I've heard other speakers say, set one goal, two goals, three goals, and then go for it in the year. Don't overwhelm yourself. Well, let me introduce a little different perspective for you. If you want a balanced life, balance meaning joy, happiness, peace, success, you have to have a balance in all areas of your life. And I define those eight pillars. Those areas as physical, social, financial, intellectual, environmental, emotional, career, and business and spiritual goals. Now, keep in mind, not every one of those pillars are going to require a huge goal that's going to be super time consuming because your spiritual life might be on target, where you just have to do little tiny disciplines every day to maintain where you're at spiritually. So you may not need a big goal there, but maybe something small. What if your career is going so well and your business is booming, but yet you don't have any money in the bank, Your finances are a mess. Well, that would mean, okay, your career is going well, but you're blowing all your money. So we need to set big goals in becoming debt free and saving money and being accountable for what you're spending emotionally and relationships emotionally, you might be doing so well in your career booming, you're going up the corporate ladder, but your relationships are suffering. So we're going to have to focus on your relationship. So that's why it's so important to focus on all of those pillars. But the goals that come with those pillars are going to be a little bit different. Some are going to be big and some are going to be small. Not every pillar will require a big goal. The areas in which your life are going well might just need a small goal, a little maintenance goal, something very easy. The areas in which your life are out of balance, like totally off the charts, out of whack, you will need a bigger goal and spend more time in that area. But if you can align goals in all of those eight pillars and create a nice comfortable balance in all of those areas, you will have that balance, peace, happiness and success in your life that everybody is looking for. So friends, now is the time to hit the reset button and create the life you want. Build your business, advance your career. Lose the weight. Lose that weight forever. Set healthy boundaries in your relationships and grow in your spiritual life. Get busy and let's go. Thanks for joining me today. Have an awesome week and I'll see you next week.
