A New Life Podcast The POWER of a Morning Routine
16 Nov 2025 · 19 min
Episode 2 of the A New Life Podcast (hosted by Pamela Jean) argues for a strict, repeatable morning routine to maximize daily productivity and advance long-term goals. Pamela describes her own routine (wake at 4:40 with one snooze, 5:15 workout, simple breakfast, Bible/devotional, gratitude journaling, focused reading, and listening to purposeful podcasts) and offers practical, stepwise advice for listeners to start smaller if needed (e.g., add 15–30 minutes). The tone is motivational and prescriptive, aimed at empowering women to make intentional morning choices.

Welcome to A New Life podcast with Pamela Jean, where it's all about empowering women to empower more women. Get ready, friends, to create a new life. And here is your host, Pamela Jean. Hello, friends, this is Pamela Jean. And welcome to episode number two of A New Life podcast. Today we are going to talk about the importance of your morning routine. How many of you, be honest now, how many of you actually have a set morning routine? I was visiting with a group of ladies, some colleagues and professionals, some other coaches that coach different things this past week. And it was interesting. Them all pull out their cell phone and we looked at their, their alarm clock and I asked them, how many settings do you have on your alarm clock? Well, as they all looked, you can imagine pretty much everyone had a zillion different, different times of getting up and different alarm set. And now, granted, I realize that not all of those times are for them to wake up in the morning. But what I wanted to illustrate is, and what I was wanting to kind of verify for my own research is that we don't always have a set routine. And I think to maximize every single day, having a really, really firm morning routine is extremely important. So I want to tell you a little bit about my morning routine and why it is the way it is. So first of all, when I open up my alarm clock on my cell phone, I have one. One time, one time. Essentially, I get up every single day at the exact same time and follow the exact same routine. So 4:40 in the morning, my alarm clock goes off. I allow myself one snooze, one snooze to kind of wake up and clear out the cobwebs. And I get up and I get ready to go do my 5:15am workout. Now, I know many of you are thinking, holy cow, how do you get up so early? And why do you get up so early? Well. Well, the reason I do what I do is very specific. I want to maximize every single moment of every single day. You know, we all get 24 hours in one day. And have you ever wondered why some people can accomplish so much and other people just can't seem to get one thing done and checked off your to do list? Well, for me, establishing a really, really rigid morning routine just sets me up for success for the entire day. It gives me the opportunity to get a lot of stuff done, number one. But also it allows me to plan, set, and reach my goals. I have huge dreams. I have big, audacious, ridiculous dreams and goals, and I want to reach those. And I am going to reach those. And if I don't maximize every single minute of every single day, I'm not going to reach those goals. And the audacious dreams and goals that I have, I'm not going to reach them. And I feel so strongly that I've been given a very specific purpose in my life. There are certain things that I am supposed to do with my life, with my life experiences that other people on this earth will be able to benefit from my experience with what I have to share. So it's so important that you maximize every single minute of every single day. And I do that by starting my morning out so specifically. So, as I said, I do my 5:15 in the morning workout. I'm home by 6:15, 6:20, which I absolutely love because I'm telling you, by 8:00 o' clock in the morning, I have moved mountains in my world. I can accomplish so much in a day by getting up, by getting up a little early. So when I get home, I make my breakfast. And I do typically eat the same thing every single day. I know that sounds really boring to most of you, but really, it's not about the food. It's about the nourishment. It's about what my body needs to perform at its maximum capacity. And I think that's really, really important. So I don't think about breakfast. I just do what I normally do every single day. That's typically three eggs, two egg, two eggs, one egg white, and a piece of fruit. That's my. My morning breakfast. While I'm having my breakfast, this is where it gets very, very specific. The first thing I do is I open up my Bible app on my phone and I do a Bible study every single morning. I'm doing some kind of devotional. I'm in some kind of Bible study. Sometimes it's with friends, sometimes it is by myself. It's a study that I do on my own, but I seek out those studies based on what the needs are in my life at a given time. So I do my Bible study first of all, and I know it's tempting, you guys, it's so tempting to pop onto Instagram or to pop into Facebook. But I'm telling you, if the first thing you put in your brain in the morning is the chaos and craziness of social media, that will absolutely filter into the rest of your day. So I start my morning off with, like I said, going to the gym and getting my workout in. Then I come home, make my breakfast, I do my Bible study. That's the first Thing I do, because the first thing you put in your brain will absolutely dictate how the rest of your day goes. So I do my bible study. Once I've done that, I get out my gratitude journal. And I think I've talked to you about gratitude journals before. If you're new to listening to me, you'll know that I believe so strongly in showing gratitude and being grateful and writing it down. You can think gratitude, but if you write it down, it just takes on a life of its own. So it's important to me that you write it down. I have a journal right now. It's pink. Pretty. I love pretty journals. It's one of my favorite things. I'm slightly addicted. I'm not gonna lie. I love journals. But in this journal, it says faith on the outside in gold lettering. And it's beautiful, and I love it. But I write down every single day five things that I am grateful for. Now, if you're thinking, I can't journal. I'm not a writer. I don't know what to say. That's a lame excuse for you to say, really, that you don't want to do it. You don't have to be a wr to write down things you're grateful for. You don't have to write a book. It's not like you're writing a story. I literally write down the day of the week, the year, and I write down with number one, what I'm grateful for. And it might. Some days it's answered prayers. I'm grateful for answered prayers. Other days, it's simple. I'm grateful for this hot cup of coffee. I'm grateful for a cool thing, fall mourning. I'm grateful for my pets. Other times, it's really deep. I'm grateful for those answered prayers. I'm grateful for that devotional that really spoke to me today. So it doesn't have to be writing of a book. It can just be, you know, simple thoughts, simple things that you are absolutely grateful for. And then at the bottom of my gratitude journal, I write down my audacious big goal, because I don't want to ever forget that and want to read it and write it every single day so it manifests, and I know it's going to come true. I don't know when it's going to come true, but it is coming true, I can tell you that. So once I've taken care of my gratitude journal, I do read one more daily devotional. And I read that, and I underline, I think I pray. That's my morning routine. As far as my meditation goes, it's extremely important. After I've done those things, then I go into reading a chapter from a book. I try to read one chapter every single day. And this isn't just a leisure book. This is a book that's helping me grow. It's helping with my coaching, it's helping me with the area of life that I want to focus on at that given time. So I make sure that I read at least one chapter. Sometimes it's only half of a chapter, depending on how intense the book is. Some days I just can't. I can't process that much information. But I like to feed my brain at the time of the day where I'm the most alert, where I'm the most focused and really, really absorb the information that I need to absorb to then filter and implement into my life and into my coaching and into everything that I am supposed to do in a given day. So once I've taken care of those tasks, I get ready for work. And now this is something that I would really encourage you do is find a podcast, and I hope you're loving the one that you're listening to right now that that makes my heart happy. But find a podcast to listen to while you're getting ready for work. Instead of having TV on, listening to a show or listening to the news or whatever, you know, again, keep the theme of positive, positive things going into your brain all morning long. Because I promise you, friends, this is going to filter into the rest of day. And therefore, when you start doing this over and over and over, you're going to end up making such incredible impact in people's lives. So as I'm getting ready for work, I'm listening to different podcasts. Again, I choose a podcast that will feed the part of my life that needs feeding. Sometimes it is things about mindset, other times it's health and wellness. Sometimes it's about motivational speaking, leadership. There's so many different topics out there, but I do select what I'm listening to based on what the needs are. For me personally, if there's an area where I'm struggling, if I'm having a day where I'm just struggling with mindset, where that imposter syndrome is creeping in, and I'm having a hard time believing that I can do what I've set out to do, I listen to a podcast that feeds that part. That reassures me that you are on the right path. You can do this. So once I'm ready for Work. Then I dive in. Notice how I haven't said anything about digging into social media. You know as well as I do social media is like a rabbit hole that sucks you in. And all of a sudden you look up and you're like, oh my gosh, how have I been on Facebook and surfing Instagram and watching TikTok videos for an hour and a half already? And you've accomplished nothing. So think about that. Whatever you feed your brain, feed your mind and your soul with is going to dictate how the rest of your day is going to go. So I know some of you are thinking right now, there is no way I am going to get up at 4:40 every single morning to start my day. And you know what, friends? That is okay? That is what works for me. But if you're going to tell me that you don't have enough time in a day to get everything done that you need to get done, then I encourage you to try to get up 15 minutes earlier than what you normally do, maybe 30 minutes earlier than what you normally do. And if you take those extra 15 minutes or 30 minutes or 45 minutes or an hour and do something intentional with that time, something that is intentional, that is going to push you towards your goals. That's going to push you to start working on those dreams that the dream, the thing that you have always wanted to do, maybe you've been thinking, gosh, I really want to go back to school. I've never gotten my degree. That's so important to me. Then you have an hour extra every single day to start working on that dream. And if you're thinking, you know, I really want a workout program, I want to start getting in shape, I want to be fit, I want to be healthy, well, then take that 30 minutes every day to start working out. Now, if you're going to give me the excuse of, oh, but I don't, I'm not a member of a gym. I don't have a trainer, I don't know how, then that's an excuse. All that is is an excuse for you to not do what you know you need to do for your body and for your health and wellness. You don't have to have a gym membership, you don't have to have a trainer to start putting your health and your body on the forefront. You can do laps around your living room. You can do lunges around your living room. It's beautiful weather right now. You can go walk, go walk around the block. And friends, if you've never done a Workout regimen before, don't start with boot camp or CrossFit. Start wherever you are. Maybe what works for you right now is a walk around the block. One block, that's okay. Move your body, start taking care of your body. You have one of those, that's it. You don't get another one. Once you have exhausted this one, you don't get another one. So take care of the one that you have and start wherever you are. Work up towards a goal. Maybe you start walking around the block once around today and tomorrow, and then the next day you go twice around and the next day you go three times around. Before you know it, you're going to be walking a mile. Once you get your first mile under your belt, then try to walk the mile a little bit faster than you did the time before. And once you master a faster time, then make it a mile and a half and then maybe two miles. And before you know it, before you know it, your body is going to start responding and you're going to start seeing things change and shift not only in your physical, how you feel physically, but how mentally you respond to all of those things. So I just wanted to recap a couple of things. The morning routine is so incredibly important. If you're someone who rolls over and hits snooze 4, 5, 6, 7 times and then all of a sudden you're late for work, that's just being irresponsible. That's just someone who is not respecting themselves enough to set yourself up for success. You're sabotaging yourself by doing that. Oftentimes the very first decision you make in the day is whether or not to get out of bed. That's decision number one. Now for myself, I don't jump out of bed right at 4:40 when the alarm clock goes on, I do give myself one snooze and really I just start thinking about my day, what it's going to look like. I start looking at my workout and I'll be honest with you, I've been doing a six or a 5:30am or 5:15am workout for probably about six and a half, seven years now. So it's going to take you time, friends to love that. But after doing it for so long, I absolutely love that morning workout. I love that time where I go and move my body and take good care of the one body that I have because I want to be a strong person. When I am, you know, 85 years old, I want to be a strong woman still. I still want to be strong. We have to take care of the one body that we have. And that is a choice, friends. That is a choice. You have to be willing to set yourself up for that success. So that first decision that you make every single morning is going to dictate and impact what the rest of your day is going to look like. So, friends, I'm challenging you right now to get out your cell phone and look at how many alarm settings that you have. If you follow me on a New Life private group on Facebook, please, if you dare, post how many alarm clock settings that you have so we can look at that and talk about it and see why you have so many. Now I get it. If you have one set for two in the afternoon to remind yourself to take some medication or pick up a kid from school, that's different. But when it's a morning routine where you have five or six, five minutes apart just so you can keep snoozing longer, that's another conversation that we need to have. When you get yourself on a very strict and comfortable morning routine, I promise you, friends, you are going to see a shift in your life. You are going to see changes. It will happen subtly. And then one day you're going to wake up and go, oh, my goodness, I have accomplished so much in this day because of that morning routine. So wake up, work out, healthy, breakfast, meditate, express your gratitude. And friends, I promise you, you are going to create that new life. Thank you so much for joining me for episode number two. You all have a great, great day. Thank you for joining us today on a New Life podcast. We will see you next time.
