Define Your Why & Take Control of Your Health
16 Nov 2025 · 26 min
Podcast episode by Pamela Jean (A New Life) that urges listeners to first define a meaningful personal "why" before pursuing weight loss or health goals. The host shares an anecdote illustrating deep motivations (e.g., wanting to be healthy for future grandchildren), then introduces and endorses the Commit to be Fit R3 Wellness Challenge — a six-week program organized as Reset → Reintroduce → Real Life. The episode gives practical, grocery-store-based guidance (3 meals + 2 snacks daily; intentional but modest exercise; accountability partners; supplements with high absorption; measuring progress via photos and biweekly weigh-ins rather than daily scales), encourages mindset shifts (eat to live, not live to eat), and offers contact details and an invitation to learn more or join the program.

Welcome to A New Life podcast with Pamela Jean, where it's all about empowering women to empower more women. Get ready, friends, to create a new life. And here is your host, Pamela Jean. Hello, my friends and welcome to this week's episode of A New Life podcast. I'm so happy to have you here. Thank you for joining me today. Going to love this week's episode. But first I want to tell you the Flourish Women's Leadership Summit is coming to Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 2nd and October 3rd of this year. You know, one thing I've learned from 2020, and I think a lot of you have learned the same thing, is we need community. We need to be together. We need to spend time with other women who can inspire us, who you can inspire. We just simply need our community. So, friends, this is a summit, a leadership summit that you do not want to miss. We are going to talk things about business and life and family. Everything is going to be touched on and I promise you, you will leave inspired. So save the date, my friends, October 2nd. And we will be releasing tickets soon. And check with me on social media to find the link to register and reserve your space. I cannot wait for this summit and you will not be disappointed. So many good things are happening. So today I want to share something with you that has just is truly life changing. You know, if you were in a crowded room right now and you asked the question, who here wants to lose weight? I would dare say 99% of the arms in that room are going to go up. Those hands are going to raise up and say, yes, I want to lose weight. Before we talk too much about that, I want you to identify your why. Why do you want to lose weight? What does that look like for you when you have your why defined and outlined the whole process of losing weight, creating a healthy plan, a lifestyle plan, is going to be so much more attainable. It's kind of like the why behind the why. Does that make sense? So everyone wants to lose weight. Everyone wants to be healthier, everyone wants to look better, feel better, all of the things. But why? I recently did a lecture to an office group and it was interesting. It was mostly women. There was one man in the crowd and I asked that question because we were defining your goal behind your goal. And I asked the question, who in this room wants to lose weight? Every hand went up and I asked the question why? One person said, one of the ladies said, I just want to feel better. Okay, that's a great answer. We all want to feel better. Right. The gentleman from the back of the room raised his hand and said, I'm sick and tired of the extra $50 a month that I'm paying because of my health and my weight. I'm sick of paying the $50. And I said, okay, let's get more specific. Why? Why are you sick of paying the $50? Is it the $50? Is that why you want to lose the weight, because of the $50? And he said, well, no, not exactly. I mean, I want to lose that. That would be great. I'd like an extra $50 each month not to have to pay towards medicine, to medication and doctor visits. And then I asked again, why? What is your why? Well, I want to feel better. Excellent answer to that question. I want to feel better. Why? Why do you want to feel better? And he paused for a second and he looked up and he said, I'm going to be a grandfather soon, and I want to be around for a very long time to spend time with my grandson friends. That is a why. That's a why that has meaning. So before you go on a journey of health and wellness, what is your why? Not just I want to look better in my clothes. I want to feel better. I want to have more confidence. Why put a why? Answer that question. Are you someone who has a family history of heart disease and you have two small children and you want to be around for those kids? You want to be able to crawl on the floor after them without an extra 50 pounds of weight? That hurts your body, hurts your legs, hurts your knees, all of those things. Is that your why? Do you want to have more confidence so you can go after the career path that you feel you want to go after? So then you can give to the philanthropy you've always wanted to give to the charity you've always wanted to donate to? That's a big why. If your why, if it's I want to lose 30 pounds before an upcoming reunion or wedding or party or get together, if that's your why, I will promise you, you most likely will fail. You won't reach your goal. You won't reach your goal. Because that type of a why doesn't have a lot of meaning behind it. What happens when the wedding is over or the reunion or the event? What happens then? What's your incentive to stay the course? There isn't any. When you establish your why, not just for your health and wellness, but for anything, for any aspect of your life, when you really get to the deep meaning of your why, that's when it's sustainable. That's when it becomes real life for you. I want to share with you a wellness plan that was introduced to me earlier this year and I've tested it and I'm trying it and I've been doing it and I wanted to test it out before I shared it with the world. I read all about it, I heard seminars about it and I thought it sounded amazing. But I had to try it myself and have firsthand account before I shared it with you. And I started a Commit to be fit R3 Wellness Challenge last week in my private group. And it has been amazing listening to women that have jumped on board, that have committed themselves, that have defined their why and are doing the program. And I want to share it with you now. So R3 stands for reset, reintroduce, real life. Those are your three Rs. It's a six week program in which is broken up into two week blocks. During the first two weeks, you are going to detox from all of the sugars and carbs that are currently in your body. You're going to detox. It's a detox time. It's a challenge. It's a little bit difficult because you're going to be fighting some of those cravings and you're absolutely going to feel the results when you start the detox process. When your body starts detoxing, you are going to feel it and it is a little bit of an unusual feeling and it might not be real comfortable. But I promise you friends, when you sign up and commit to this health plan, you'll get through the two week. It will be okay. Please trust the process. But the first two weeks are a bit of a challenge because you're eliminating the sugars and you might be eliminating some foods that you really, really enjoy. I found and discovered that I was eating way too much fruit, way too much fruit without tying it to protein. So that was definitely something that I had to adjust and get used to. So the first two weeks is the reset program. You're resetting your metabolism. During that reset, we're teaching you to have a healthy relationship with food. Do you live to eat or do you eat to live? Which is it for you? Through this program, you really eat when you're hungry. But as you're making your choices, you have a very specific yes list and a no list. And when you eat when you're hungry and you're choosing foods off of the yes list, it's a win win. So those first two weeks, as I said, you are detoxing from carbs and sugars, which is awesome. And if you can keep 80% of the time following the yes list, with 20% of the time not following the yes list, you're going to see results. You are going to feel a difference. Now, if you can stick with it 100% of the time, obvious, that's better, that's going to help level out your glycemic index and have a more steady stream with your sugars. The second two weeks is really about reintroducing carbs and sugars back into your diet, but in a healthy, manageable way. So for instance, let's say you decide to add fruit back in and maybe you're going to have two to three servings of fruit per week. The key is you have your fruit with a protein. So if I'm having eggs in the morning and I have an apple or half of an apple, or a piece of some strawberries or a banana, you're having that with protein to help keep your sugar levels more level and regulated. So the second two weeks you're learning how to introduce carbs and sugars back into your meal plan. The third two weeks is about learning how to live real life with your new cravings, your new eating habits that you've established. Real life, isn't that amazing? Part of that process too is learning that you can have your one meal of the week that is maybe your pizza. You're gonna go out to pizza and have pizza on a Saturday and that's okay. That's your one meal a week that you're not going to follow your plan. And that's okay. It's okay. Because this is about real life. It's about learning how to control your eating with real life. And here's the most awesome thing I can tell you about this health plan is it's all food that you get from your grocery store. That's right, your grocery store. You do not have to order food, you do not have to order meals. You don't have to count your calories. You're not counting macros or weighing your food or anything like that. And truly, you should never be hungry on this plan. Never will you be hungry. If you are hungry, if you have a meal and you're not satisfied, then you'll eat something else from the yes list. It's as simple as that. So through this plan, you will have three meals a day. You're going to have your breakfast, your lunch, and then you'll have your dinner. You will always have two snacks a mid morning and A mid afternoon snack. It's important that you include those snacks because you have to keep your metabolism steady. You don't want to have those peaks and valleys that come along with a metabolism. When you have your highs and lows, when you have those highs and lows, you're going to feel your body become sluggish. You're not going to have the energy that you want. Now when you add a component of intentional exercise that is just going to benefit this whole health plan. Now when I say exercise, it doesn't mean you have to go to the gym and do hardcore workouts. It does not mean that start walking. If you don't have an exercise plan, start one. You don't have to start at the top. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Walk around the block today, maybe do it twice tomorrow. Walk around two times tomorrow. You don't have to start at the top because if you start at the top, you're going to feel like you fail. There is no failure with this health plan. None whatsoever. There's no guilt, only choices. Only choices. And it's such a beautiful thing when you stick to the yes list 80% of the time and 20% of the time you don't, you will see results. You are going to see progress. So establish your why work on the mindset of eating to live. Instead of living to eat, work on the mindset of dysfunctional relationship with food. I think we've all been there in one way or another in our lifetime. Do you stress eat? Are you a stress eater? Are you an emotional eater? Are you, do you sabotage yourself with food? Food was not meant to be divisive. Food is for nourishment. It's simply for nourishment. It's to fuel your body. Just like you have to fuel your vehicle, how you fuel your car, you have to fuel your body. So it's not about having a dysfunctional relationship with food. It's really working on healthy relationship with food to be able to make healthy choices. And when you start feeling better, the non scale wins are amazing because you're going to start feeling better, your sleep patterns are better, your energy levels are higher. And the beauty of this health plan, it is not recommended that you jump on the scale every single day to check your progress. In fact, that is health plan sabotage. If you do you want to get on the scale every two weeks, Think about it. If you felt like I feel like I did really well yesterday, I'm going to get on the scale this morning and see how much weight I've lost. What if you haven't lost any? What if you've gained a pound? What if you only lost a half a pound? What is that going to do to your mindset? That's sabotaging. Don't do it. Do not do it. Your non scale wins are going to be bigger than your scale wins. I promise you that's true. So weigh and measure yourself right at the beginning of this plan. At the beginning of your six weeks, weigh and measure yourself and then stay away from the scale and that measuring tape for two weeks and then you're going to weigh and measure yourself again. I would recommend taking a before picture and then taking a progress picture after your first two weeks. Sometimes it's hard for us to visualize our difference, the improvement, the progress. But when you see a before picture, it's much easier for you to have a comparison. Now that's not something you need to share with the world. You can if you want to, if you want to inspire someone, but it's really for you to have your own metric to be able to measure and see how far you've come. Set yourself up for success. How do you succeed on a health plan? Well, first of all, you have to plan nothing or no one can be or will be successful without a plan. Write down a weekly meal schedule, a meal plan. Plan out your breakfast each week, plan out your lunches, your dinner as well as your snacks each day. Go to the grocery store, load up on the things that you know you'll be having that week. So there's no excuses, there's no thought of, well, I just don't have anything in the house. Set yourself up for success. Now if you have a hard time figuring out how to get enough protein, which that's definitely a problem I have. I'm not a big meat eater. I'm quite honestly a very picky eater. So I struggle with getting enough protein. If you remember from past podcasts, I will have told you that I do three eggs every day, two egg whites or two eggs and one egg white and fruit. Well guess what happened. After six years of having that same breakfast, I now have high CH cholesterol. So I'm having to make an adjustment with my intake to be able to manage the cholesterol. So what I've done is I have decided to go with a protein shake each morning. I have a pre workout bar on my way to the gym and then I have my protein shake after the gym. And so far so good. I feel great. I don't miss the eggs at all. And to be honest with you, I am not a live to eat person. I'm an eat to live person. So I don't really miss the eggs. And I'm enjoying a new, just a little bit new element to my routine. The protein shakes are great. The company in which I get the shakes from, they are delightful. They taste so good. And sometimes if I'm super busy of a day, I'll sometimes have two protein shakes in a day. It might replace my lunch just because I'm too busy to be able to sit down and have lunch. So you have to set yourself up for success through calendaring out and writing out your weekly meal plan. And get an accountability partner. Find someone that wants to do this with you, whether it be a spouse or a roommate or a best friend or a sister. Get someone to do this with you so you can check in every day and say, hey, how's it going? How are you doing? I have an accountability partner right now and man, she is pushing me. She's amazing. She is not only encouraging me and giving me words of encouragement, but she's also giving me ideas, asking questions. We're bouncing ideas off of each other. Have that accountability partner. It's important to do so. Another important element about this health plan is having good supplements. Reality is we do not get enough from our food, enough nourishment and nutrients from our food in the way that we used to. You know, back in the day. I grew up on a farm in northwest Iowa. It was literally farm to table. That's kind of like a trendy thing right now, farm to table restaurants. But it literally was farm to table. You'd go out and pull carrots out of the ground, you'd dig up potatoes, you would bring it all in, wash it and prepare it for dinner. That was farm to table back in the day. But we don't get the nutrients from our foods that we used to. You know, 20, 30 years ago, the ground had so many more nutrients in it. The growth process was different. There weren't the pesticides and additives that there are today. So your food is not as nutritious as it used to be. You have to have good supplements. Now what's important on a supplement, because not all supplements are created equally, is to have a high mineral absorption rate. That is what you're looking for in selecting your supplements. Just because a supplement has a super high price does not mean it's better necessarily. Low price doesn't always mean that it's the worst. So read the labels, make sure, you are looking for the absorption rate that is the most important component when you're choosing your supplements and make sure that you're choosing the right supplements for your body. Go get your blood work done, talk to your doctor, see what you need. What are you deficient in that's important? It's so important to do that. So check with your doctor, get your blood work done. I would encourage you to get your blood work done before you start a health plan and then get it done after maybe three months, after you've been on the health plan for three months. Because the R3 commit to be fit health plan is not just for six weeks. This is a lifestyle. This is something for you to do the rest of your life. And you know, here's what's so fun. You might have a big weekend planned with friends and family or a big event and you just don't want to have to worry about the protein shakes and all of the things that is okay. Have your weekend, have a good time. And if you feel your body shifting, all you do is start over with the reset time. You start out resetting your metabolism. It's as easy as that. It's never a failure and there should never be guilt associated with the health plan. This is just simply choices. So friends, I knew I had to share this with you because many people I know are looking for ways to maintain health and wellness. Diets are not the answer. They really are not the answer. For me. I needed something that was simple and easy, that I didn't have to count calories, I didn't have to weigh my food, count macros, order my food online. I didn't have to do any of that. This is all things that you can get from your local grocery store. It's incredible. If you would like to know more information about the R3 Health and Wellness plan, please reach out to me. My email address is pamela jean.anew lifemail.com or you can find me on social media. Many of you are already following me. You can find me on social media and I'm happy to share R3 with you. The wellness company in which developed the R3 program is incredible. I have been a happy shopper with this company for over nine years and just earlier this year learned about this health plan that is absolutely incredible. I would love to share with you the detox products that they have not only for your home, but the health and wellness support products that they have that are incredible. Now you don't have to have those to do the R3 reset. You do not need those at all. But if you want a helping hand on the journey, I can hook you up with an incredible company that has protein, that is out of this world, that actually tastes good. They manufacture their own based on plant based and based on science. Incredible. They have bars and shakes, all kinds of things that will help your success in your health journey as well as detoxing everything out of your home. The toxins that are in, bleaches and cleaners, it is mind blowing if you've ever looked into that. It is unbelievable. So if you want more information, let me know. But before you start your plan, I want you to identify your why. Why do you want to get healthy? Why do you want to lose the weight? What is your why? And it can't be just to look good for a reunion. Because you know, friends, when the reunion is over, your incentive is over. Your why is over. Your why has to be bigger than that. And like the gentleman that was in the class that I lectured the other day when he identified his why as being his grandson that's going to be born in September, that's his why. There isn't anything that's bigger than that. My friends, thank you. I cannot thank you enough for the community that we have and thank you for being here. I hope this has inspired you to get on a health journey that is something that can become your lifestyle and I am here to support you. If you need help or want health, let me know. Have a great day, friends. Thank you so much for being here and I will see you next week. Thank you for joining us today on a New Life podcast. We will see you next time. Sam.
