Welcome to A New Life podcast with Pamela Jean, where it's all about empowering women to empower more women. Get ready, friends, to create a new life. And here is your host, Pamela Jean.
Hello, my friends, and thank you for joining me for this week's episode of A New Life podcast. We are nearing the end of January. First month of the new year has come to a close. How are you doing on those New Year resolutions? Be honest, friends. How are you doing? Well, it is safe to say that most of you listening have already given up, haven't you? You've gotten distracted, maybe a little depressed with the end of the holiday season. I know how all of that excitement is so much fun. And then you get to January and it's just kind of boring and there's not a lot do and you fall into a little bit of depression. Perhaps you've gotten busy and just simply busy and derailed by life and you told yourself, well, better luck next year. I can think of a zillion reasons why you gave up in your goals, but none of that is going to serve you at all. The episode this week is about, I want to get healthy, but I don't know where to start. I think that's the question I get asked more than anything is where do I start? It's so overwhelming. I don't know what to do. And we all know this to be true, that if you are going to have success at doing anything, anything at all, your career, your family, your relationships with your children, with your spouses, it takes a plan and it takes dedication and commitment and a lot of work. So that, number one conflict of knowing where to start is our topic for today. And I am really, really excited about this. I want you to take a quick second to go grab a pen and a notebook because there's a lot of things that you're going to want to start taking notes on and just, just go do that. It's really important that you take some notes because there's a lot of good things. And if you're, you know, listening while you're in the car or you're out for your walk or doing your exerc, come back to it and listen again, but have your notebook handy. So step number one, friends, is that you're going to register for a new Life365 program or find the best program for you. You know, there are so many different health plans, weight loss journeys, whatever it is in the world right now. It can be really, really overwhelming to know which one that is going to fit you best. And here's a great suggestion. When you're choosing a program, make sure you choose a program or a plan that is something that you can commit to forever. And let me explain. So if you're on, you know, let's say a keto diet. Keto is not something that you can do forever. It is, it's a fabulous weight loss plan and it's very effective for a lot of different reasons. But it's not necessarily something that you can do forever. It's not healthy to do this forever. Or if intermittent fasting is something that you don't want to do forever. Whatever you choose, whatever it is, you need to find what's best for you. And just make sure that the changes that you're going to make and the changes that you're committing to are things that you can continue and do forever. That it's not just a tiny moment in time and it's not just a binge radical diet, I'm going to lose X amount of weight in six weeks or whatever. So it's important that you find something that you can commit to forever. So many people end up on a yo yo diet because you're not choosing something that's sustainable. In order to change your life, you need to change your lifestyle. And that's what this is all about. So once you have registered and you know, obviously friends, I'm going to be talking about the health plan that I participate in, in the health plan that I teach because it's, it's what I believe in and it's what I have found can be done forever and amen. So you're going to download the R3 health plan. Get a three ring binder to keep all of your documents organized and at your fingertips. Before you start anything, anything at all, a new health plan, please consult your doctor. Make sure physically you have been cleared for a health plan. Whether you're doing the R3 plan or keto or Atkins or whatever you have chosen for yourself. Make sure you get your doctor's home okay and clearance. Before you do any new health plan, it's important to do that the next thing you're going to do is define your why. This is huge. I cannot stress strongly enough this step. Take some time and think this through. Your why has to be bigger than you. It has to be bigger than vanity. If your reason to lose weight and get healthy is because a class reunion is coming up this spring or in the fall, whatever progress you make will all be lost after the event is over because the event itself is your motivation. Remember that yo yo diet effect I was talking about? The reason for you losing you're going to be up and down, up and down. If that is when you decide to get healthy is because of an event or something on the calendar. Your reason to lose weight and get healthy cannot be for anyone else. For example, if you're losing weight for your husband, thinking he will love you more if you lose the weight, you are setting yourself up for a big disappointment. If you are losing weight because your mother is on you daily or your sister or your friends, it will not be sustainable. Any progress you make potentially will fail. This will never be lifelong lifestyle change. The fix will only be temporary and you will continue to ride the Yo Yo. Think about this for a reason. I want to focus on my health and wellness. To no longer have knee pain, hip pain, back pain, to get off medication. Maybe you're taking medication that you would like to no longer have to take. Perhaps your motivation to lose weight is going to be able to play at the playground with your children or grandchildren. Not be the unhealthy person sitting on the park bench just watching, but to be out there running and playing tag and up and down on the playground equipment with your kids. Know the reason. Know the reason and don't skip this step, my friends. This is one of the most important important aspects is understanding your why. Read through the R3 health plan, ask questions, educate and equip yourself with knowledge and confidence. Make sure you have a good understanding of the process and mentally Prepare. With the R3 plan you will first begin with a reset. The first two weeks of resetting your metabolism is goal number one. Week number three. Our focus will be reintroducing some of the foods that you have left out of your diet to facilitate the resetting of your metabolism. And the fourth week our focus will be learning how to live real Life on the R3 plan. The next thing is you're going to establish your start date. Now. February 14th a new youth 365 is starting a new class. Join us. Please join us if you would like to have accountability and someone to lock arms and hold your hand through this process. ANU you365 is a full year of support to assist you in transforming your life. Our first focus is health and wellness and then we go on the wellness wheel from there. Come along and let's do this together. The next step is to circle the foods you like on the yes list and the no list on the R3 health plan. This program will inform you with a long list of yes foods that are a great way to start resetting your metabolism. Everything from your proteins to dairy to grains. It is all there. And I have to tell you, I am the absolute pickiest person in the world and there were so many options for me. So I don't want you to feel like it's a list of like two things. The list is really long with your yes list handy. After you have circled your favorites, plan out your meals and snacks for the next two weeks. Send me an email if you would like my weekly meal planner worksheet and I'm happy to provide that for you so you can help stay this will help you stay on task and help you stay focused with your eye on your goal. Once you have have mapped out your meal planning worksheet and your snacks, go to your local grocery store. Yes your local store. You do not have to order special foods from a website. Everything you need for your meals and snacks you can get at your local grocery store. Your favorite store. Whether you're at Whole Foods or Costco or Walmart Neighborhood Market or whatever your your main favorite store is. That's where you get to shop. You know, certainly take advantage of order, pickup and delivery. My goodness I wish I had that when my kids were little because that is amazing. But you do not have to purchase expensive pre made meals from a special website and I love that about this plan because it's easy and anyone can do it. Then purchase the items to make your meals and snacks from the grocery store. Something really important when you go shopping after you've circled all of the favorite yes foods on the list. That doesn't mean you buy them all at once. I made this mistake the first time I did the reset and I way overbought on fresh foods and veggies and I couldn't eat them all before they spoiled and it ended up throwing food away and I absolutely cannot stand doing that. So really rely on your meal planning worksheet to establish your grocery list for the week. And I do recommend that you write out a grocery list that's going to do a couple of things. It'll keep you from over buying overspending. Number one, it's great for the budget, but it also keeps you on task of what you need. If it's not on the list, it doesn't go in the cart. Period. I want to address vitamins and supplements. These are an absolute must. Unfortunately we do not get the proper nutrition from the food that we consume. The wellness company that I have locked arms with can help you fill in the gaps. There is a peak performance pack of vitamins that is right for your specific needs. What I love for is the fact that your daily vitamins are all pre packaged in morning packs and night packs. All you do is rip open, take the pills inside and you're done. There's no counting pills, there's no separating. It is so super convenient. And if you're anything like me, if it's not convenient, I probably won't do it and I won't be very good at it. So it's it's really really really awesome. It's fantastic. The next step is for you to schedule your exercise at least three times per week and friends, meet yourself where you are with your exercise. If you are new to exercise or you haven't exercised in a long time, joining a gym is really not what you need right now. That honestly will be a waste of money and you'll feel like a failure if you don't go to the gym three times a week. Start with a simple, simple walk around the block, squats while you're cooking dinner or just start moving your body. If you have stairs in your home, go up and down your stairs several times without holding the rail. Get your balance back, get your leg strength back, but meet yourself where you are. Increase your time and distance each week and build up. Build up your stamina. Build up your endurance to possibly joining a gym or an exercise class if that's what you want and need to stay on task. I can't stress enough the importance of good quality sneakers and comfortable workout clothing when you start exercising. What I would really do is find a sneaker shop that specializes in shoes for runners and get the assistance of a professional to recommend a shoe that is perfect for your foot and perfect for the type of exercise that you're going to be doing. If you are a runner, you're going to need running shoes. Specific running running shoes. If you're a runner with a high instep, you're going to need certain shoes. If you're going to be walking as opposed to boot camp or something like that, you're going to need specific shoes for your walking. If you're walking on a treadmill compared to walking outside on the concrete, you'll need specific shoes for that. So consult a professional when it comes to the shoes that you wear for the type of exercise you're going to be doing. Shoes absolutely matter. And let's be honest, some comfy workout clothes are a must too. This helps with the mindset. Okay, next Friends, you will weigh yourself and take your measurements on the morning of your start date, whatever that is for you. That's when you're going to take your measurements. Before you've had any any food or anything like that, take your measurements and you're going to weigh in. In the R3 information, you will be given a guide of how to measure properly, how and where. Now is not the time to be hard on yourself. If you are not with where you are physically right now, consider this the first step to saying goodbye to that person in the mirror, making way for a new and healthy you. I do also recommend taking a starting picture. This will be for you, not for the public. Unless you choose to share it. It's always good to remember where you came from. Before I go on to the next step, I want to take a moment and talk to you about the scale. Many times the scale can sabotage your progress. For instance, if you feel like, gosh, I did so good today, I didn't have any snacks, I stayed away from sugar, I did so great. And you get on the scale the next morning and you don't see any change that can sabotage your progress and get into your head. With the R3 program, you will not weigh yourself every day. In fact, you will only weigh in every two weeks. Weeks. Everyone progresses at a different pace. One person might have more inches lost after two weeks and someone else might have more weight loss than inches. It's so important, friends, to remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint. Losing weight and getting your health back takes time. It is so important that you trust the process, follow the program to a T and commit to yourself. You are so worth it and we will be right here supporting you along the way. Okay, off the soapbox for right now. I just wanted to talk about the importance of monitoring your scale and not let the scale become your sabotage in the process. So the next thing you're going to do, you've already done your shopping, you've done your measurements. Now you're going to prepare your food for the week. I would consider getting some glass containers that stack neatly in your refrigerator and have all of your snacks ready. Now, I'm a big fan of protein bars and snacks. If I don't have those handy in my desk or in my purse, I will probably forget to have my snack. I just get so busy during my day, I forget to eat as often as I need to to keep my metabolism balanced and in check. But protein bars, snack bars, they are not created equally. If you listen to my breaking up A sugar podcast a couple of ago. You will know how many bars are not healthy. All the ones you thought were. Oh my gosh friends, they are not healthy at all. I get mine from my wellness company so I don't have to think about what I'm putting into my body. Hold on friends, we're almost there. I've got just a little bit more to cover with you. The next big tip to set yourself up for success is to do a pantry purge. Get rid of all the bad choices that you have in the refrigerator and in the pantry. All the things that will tend tempt you to sabotage your progress. Chips, candy, sugary snacks, all must go. And you will be so glad that you did this for yourself. I promise you. You will. You're going to purge your pantry, taking away all of those bad things that are tempting you and adding all those good, yummy things that are good for you that are going to set you up for your success. Okay, get a water bottle ready. Glass or stainless steel is best. Avoid plastic water bottles. There are too many toxins in the plastic that is not good for your body. So get yourself a cute, fun glass and stainless steel water bottle and you should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces every single day. So for some just quick easy math. If you weigh 100 pounds, half of that is 50. You should be drinking 50 ounces of water each day. While you're resetting your metabolism, your body will need that water to help you purge the toxins. Excess sugar and the yuck water is going to help you in so many ways. It's not only going to help you with releasing the toxins, but it's going to make your skin look so great as well. I do suggest recruiting accountability partners people in your life that will help, truly help and support you. Choose this person wisely. Find someone who is already where you want to be with your health and your wellness. If you choose someone who currently cares about their body and cares about their wellness, they are going to care about your body and your wellness. If you choose someone who isn't taking care of themselves, they most likely will not be capable of helping you stay on track and helping you take care of yourself. Or better yet, enlist a friend to join with you to a new you365 and we can all do this together and we'll have that built in accountability. And lastly, believe in yourself friends. Think about how long it took you to lose sight of your health and wellness and gain the weight that you have gained the weight and unhealthy lifestyle didn't happen overnight. It happened over time. Life happened. You had children, became stressful at your job, lost a loved one. You went through a divorce. I get it. Something triggered you. A huge component of a new U365 is not only that we lock arms with you to get your health in order, but we also dig into the why and understand and discover what happened. How did you get there? How did you let yourself go? Why did you let yourself go? Why are you eating your emotions? Why did you stop caring about yourself? If we don't get to the root, to the core of the problem, it doesn't matter how much weight you lose. You will still not be happy. You will still not love what you see in the mirror. You will stay on that Yo Yo Diet. That's where a new YOU365 program comes in. It supports the entire YOU in eight key areas of your life, assisting you find that balance and clarity that we all need. Honestly, my friends, okay, phew. That was a lot to digest. I get it. I know that was a lot of information about where to start, but I hope you enjoyed all of those tips. A couple of reminders for you. A new U365 class starts February 14th. Weight loss and wellness is the first topic. So go to my website to sign up for February and give yourself the best and perfect Valentine's Day gift. Friends, thank you so much for joining me today. I want you to know how much I believe in you. I believe in you. You can do hard things. I know you may have fallen off track with your New Year's resolutions and you think about giving up till next year. Let's not give up till next year. Let's pick up where we left off and let's do this this together. Thank you my friends. Have a great rest of your day.
