4 Rules I Follow Every Game to Climb to Masters

In this solo instructional video, Perry Norman shares the four core principles that enable him to consistently climb from Emerald to Masters in League of Legends. He begins by emphasizing the importance of one‑tricking a champion, using his own Viego statistics (76.6% win rate on two‑trick champs) as evidence that mastery and a consistent playstyle are essential. He then stresses a marathon‑mindset: treating each game as a learning opportunity, staying confident despite losses, and believing you can influence any game. The third rule addresses how to handle being behind; Perry advocates sub‑optimal but safe choices that prevent making the situation worse, such as trading small advantages, protecting camps, and looking for low‑risk windows rather than diving for a perfect play. Finally, he outlines a disciplined, pre‑planned game plan with adaptable decision‑trees (prio, camp routing, gank timing, dragon/dragon decisions) that he inputs information into during the match, allowing rapid, consistent choices. Throughout, he provides concrete in‑game examples, references his Korean solo‑queue experience, and promotes his one‑on‑one coaching service at junglekingdom.gg.

All right guys, for all of my Emerald players trying to push to Diamond, Masters, and hit the top percentage of the game, I want to show you guys how I'm able to do it consistently with a very high win rate. I have 4 things, 4 rules that are going to help you that you must apply, follow, and learn. This can be applied lower elo you are, but there are easier things to work on than what I'm going to be talking about in today's video. This is my Korean account. I was just in Korea, played against The Korean national team, got to meet Faker, got destroyed by Guma, Keria, Canyon, Zeka, Zeus. They were just— they're just so good. But I was in Korea, played some solo queue, and I kind of killed it while I was there. Now, how am I able to do this consistently? I don't play with too much intensity. I obviously make content, I coach, yet I'm still able to perform at a level. So there are these 4 things that I'm going to highlight and talk to you guys. The first 2 you've probably heard a million times. The last 2, very important to watch and understand those 2 things. Let's jump into the first thing. Very evidently, I love Viego. I'm good on Viego and I've learned the gameplay and the style of Viego. And so my win rate, my highest win rate is on Viego, 23 games. And I have maybe, what is that, 37 games total. Okay, on this other account here too, same thing, 42 games. This game, this account I use a lot, I made a lot of content. But as you can see, all the other champions, I just have like negative win rate here, negative win rate here, negative win rate here. 50/50, a bunch of losses. And so my Viego Trundle win rate, my 2-trick champs that I'm playing, 76.6% win rate. I'm with the rest of my champions at 56.6%. So important to one-trick. I cannot stress it enough. I make content, so sometimes I'm playing Olaf, Jarvan, Wukong. But as you can see, when I was in Korea, locked the fuck in, most of my games were on Viego. Even though my team was begging me to play other champs, I'm like, bro, it's solo queue. I'm just goated on Viego. I'm going to play my Viego champion. There's no exception to not one-trick a champion. Do yourself a solid, find that champion. The main reason is to have a playstyle and identity. If you go from Viego to Vi to Jarvan, they all have different identities and they play differently. You need to play the same. This is very important for the last thing that I want to talk about. But if you can't do this, it's going to be hard to climb. Very hard. Okay. Number 2, you need the mentality and the belief that this is a marathon and that you're trying to improve and get better at the game, losses and wins, they don't actually matter or mean too much. In fact, some games that like you will just lose, but as long as you take something away from the game, you're going to improve and get better. Not only that, if you have this mindset, if you have this belief, there are games that surprisingly will feel very lost But there's ways to make those games winnable. And so even if you have really shitty teammates at some point, like I think when I was on this Korea climb, I had some awful teammates. And so look at my top laner, 1-7. Look at this game here. This guy's 4-3. This was my one good top laner. 3-5 in 21. He's whatever, 6-7, 5-4. I dropped 26 kills even though my teammates were inting. 3-10 here, 9-10, 6-6. It doesn't matter, okay? Because I have the mindset and the belief that I can carry every game. And every hard situation that shows up, 3 losing lanes and everything that happens, I'll find a way to either learn something, get better, or problem solve the situation. 4-6, 5-7, like useless-ass teammates. As like, like for the most part on paper. 1-5 top laner here. This game I had a 2-6-2 fucking Elise top lane. 0-6 fucking Viktor mid lane. Like, like there's some disgusting things happening. Look, their Lee Sin is literally 9/2/1/2. And I'm able to make this game winning. Okay, so it's because I have this mindset that every game I can win, and even if I can't win, I can learn. And so you need to adopt this belief so that you can progress as a player. If you can't do the first 2 things, you need to start there. So if you're hard stuck Emerald and you're unable to climb and you haven't done these 2 things, you're not following them like literally like like it's the Bible. Like you have to follow these things. You're not going to climb. You're going to be stuck. Okay. The third thing here. Now, I love everybody wants to hear this. What do I do when I'm behind? So this game you're behind. Let's say your top laner's dying, your mid laner's dying. How do you win the game? What do you do? And I think everybody always has this question, Perry. What do I do when I am behind? My top laner is under turret farming. My mid laner is under turret farming. My support, my bot lane is under turret farming. And I am getting invaded in my bot side. If I walk in, I die. That's a parry. I'm losing 3 bot camps. What the fuck do I do? I just can't play the game. Let's talk about it. What do you do? Do you throw in the towel? Do you FF? Do you just lose? The honest answer is if you have that mindset, yeah, you will lose. You'll walk in here, you'll go in, you'll die, and then your bot lane's gonna get dove and they'll die. And then you'll be like, yeah, like GG, FF. Bot lane's losing, mid lane's losing, top lane's losing. Can't win the game. Go next. Okay. The honest answer to dealing with hard situations is really suboptimal solutions. And so people are trying to find the best solution. You want to know what the suboptimal solution is to losing all your bot camps? It's not dying and just losing your bot camps in peace. So if I'm going towards bot lane here, the jungler's here and the jungler's going to dive my bot lane. But if you walk around, sit here and S key, and chances are the jungler's going to take your camps and then come and dive. And maybe you're there. They'll fuck the dive up. They don't expect you being there. Boom, you make a counterplay. It's not ideal. You lose 3 camps. What if the enemy jungler just leaves? Not ideal. Then your bot lane catches a wave. Okay, it's not great, but it's something that doesn't make the game worse. Okay, instead of going towards the bot camps here, what if you go top lane? Maybe, maybe his red buff and Raptors are gone. You have all your camps up, but you can get a Krugs. That's something. And you don't die. And maybe you can look for a top gank. And so the answer is not great. It's not pretty. And people just want to find the perfect solution. When you're behind, there is no perfect solution. You're going to struggle, but people make it worse. Usually when people are behind, you know what they, they love doing? They just want to go in and die. Don't make your game worse when the game is hard. It's okay. They're going to throw. They're going to make a mistake. Think about the last 10 games you've played. Imagine it. When, like, at what point in time has the enemy played perfectly? Zero deaths, zero misplays, never mispositioning, never giving you an angle to do something. In League of Legends, there's so much variance and there's so many times people fall asleep on the keyboard. They literally have IRL things happening. Anything can happen in a League of Legends game to the point where it's winnable, it's comebackable. And it might not be pretty. It might not even— you might still lose. You might, you might like Fight for like five extra minutes and then still lose the game anyway. But the essence of doing that over and over and over again and taking one small thing back at every point in time is the discipline and it's the mindset you need to climb. Because I'm telling you guys, this game right here, I remember this game right here. If I were to to show you guys what the tab screen looked like, look at this. Does this game look fucking cool? I'm down 1.2k. It's it's fucking six seven minutes into the game. Does this game look winnable to you? No. But I'm doing my part. And every time Lee Sin invades me, I'm not dying. I'm chilling. The score is literally 15 to 6. We fucking won this game because I'm not making the game worse for myself. Look at this, 16 to 6. We're down 5.4K gold. We end up coming back. I believe they FF because they lost a crazy team fight. We just like aced them. So obviously if they didn't FF, the game is still— we just have to play it out. But the point is, no matter how hard the game gets, I'm not making things worse. And you guys, the average player that's climbing from Emerald to Diamond, just make things worse for yourself. Start there. Okay. The actual answer to what do I do when I have 3 losing lanes is find a solution that might not be as good, but something that you can trade against the enemies. So they kill my bot lane, they get 2 plates, 3 plates, they get waves. I kill your top laner. Or maybe I get one top plate. Sure. Or maybe my small win is I lose all my bot camps and I defend the bot dive. Okay, sure. I wouldn't prefer to do this unless it's very obvious, very protected, and they're 100% diving bot lane because I want gold for myself. And so if the enemies don't dive bot, it sucks. But if they do and you're there, it's great. The idea is find your small windows to trade back. It's not going to be sexy. It's not going to be easy. But you need to start there. You have to adapt. You have to be willing to give up a lot and take something small back into the game. So it's a mindset thing, but it's also just waking up in the game and not making it worse for yourself. Super duper important. And there's some games I can show you guys what I mean by this. But genuinely, just— I'll give another example. They're on the dragon, 7-16. They're on the dragon. Your support is going here, your ADC is going here, your mid laner is going there. Let them die, bro. Ping them. Go top lane, take some camps. Just give it. They're breaking bot turret. They're breaking top turrets. Find somewhere where the enemies aren't grouped and make a play there. You guys know this. You guys know how to trade. So the next thing I want to talk about here, and this is the most important thing by far, it is discipline around a standard game plan and their adaptations. And so when I load into a game, I know my game plan. Every game. There's no variance. Okay? I know I'm going to do this or this. I know what I'm doing. I know it. And let's say I do this. So we'll just project it from blue side. I do this and I have no bot prio. I have no mid prio. I lose bot crab. I'll go to top crab then. I know the circumstances. Or let's say I go bot lane. I'm here, right? I'm level 4 here. You know, you guys know this. Full clear into bot lane level 4. My bot lane solo killed the enemies. They had to recall. So my bot lane's winning and now they're walking for base. My mid laner also solo killed and he's recalled and he's walking for base. They have better tempo. What am I going to do? Am I going to fight the crab? No, I'm going to input no bot prio, no mid prio. I'm not going to think too hard. I just see these conditions. I know my answer because I do the same game plan over and over and over again. I can input information and poop out a response immediately. So if I have mid prio and bot prio, what's my answer? Go to the bot crab. Let's say I got like, I fucked my smite up, I fucked my camps, and I'm now minus 15 seconds. I have mid prio, I have bot prio. I'm in the bot side here now. What do I do? Give the bot crab, maybe. Or maybe, it depends. But I know my answers to the situation of the game. I know what I'm going to do because I have my pre-planned game plan and I know the adaptations of what to do. And so let's say I clear down. And the enemy, the enemy is like looking for an invade. So I'm here and the enemies are coming to invade me. I know what I'm going to do. What am I going to do? Drop the red buff, go to the Krugs, maybe play the bot crab, maybe play the mid lane. Depends on mid and bot prio. So if bot has prio, maybe they can come help me. If mid has prio, maybe they can help me. If they don't, lose a camp. And so I know what's going to happen. I just input information to the equation. On my second rotation, what am I going to do? I'm going to clear Gromp, Wolves, Raptors. And here's where I might do something. Maybe I'll go for an invade if the enemy jungler shows top lane. Okay, you lose your bot camps. Maybe I'll go for a bot gank if the enemy bot lane is pushed too far forward. Okay, maybe I'll go for my Krugs if there's no play. And after my Krugs, I know my adaptations. After my Krugs, maybe I will go for another bot gank. Maybe I'll go around to dodge vision if they have vision. Maybe I'll go Maybe for a gank. I will recall and then go straight to top lane because there's no bot lane. I know all my options. And all I'm doing while I play is I input information. Mid has no prio. I can maybe gank them. Mid is Galio. Maybe I can gank them. Mid is like— they're playing lock on the enemy mid lane. No mid gank. Okay, then just recall or maybe play bot lane. And so all I'm doing as I'm playing is I am looking at my game plan, looking at my adaptations, and inputting information. So you know what to do when you see this, right? When you see this plus this minus this is equal to what? You know what that is, right? And all I'm doing is like, oh, I have prio here. Let's say it's top lane. I have prio here. I have mid here. I'll just put this like a plus here. And I have bot here. And so I have prio here, okay? And I have no prio here. And so what does that mean? Do we go bot lane or do we go top lane? And so it's all just an equation. And I know what my game plan is based off of the equation. Or actually, we'll just look at the second notation first. Krugs, maybe if my bot has prio, my mid has prio, do the Dragon. Depends on their champions, depends on the conditions of the lane, but maybe Dragon's an option. And so after Krugs, I have options, right? I can go top, I can go mid, I can go bot, I can go Drake, I can go invade, I can go recall, I can go loop around, I can go bot bush, I can go for like a sit in river. And so what I'm doing in this situation is I am putting the information that helps me figure out which one I'm going to be doing. And so that's what's happening in a Challenger player's brain is they know their options, they know their plan, and they just get information and they input. Okay, so based off of bot prio and mid prio and we have Draven, I can now say that it's very easy for me to go and play for this. Drake here. And this applies at every stage in the game and every champion is going to be different. All right. And I really, really quickly wanted to add this into the video here. So I'm recording this after. I want to add more context because I gave you the game plan that I use. Let's say you want to play a more aggressive style and you like playing Lee Sin, maybe Talon, maybe Lee Sin, Naafiri. You can do this Raptors, Krug, red buff, Krugs into maybe a bot gank, maybe a recall, maybe a bot invade. But you see how there's, there's 3 options here. And you know what your options are. Or maybe it's Raptors into an invade right away and they just know what to do. And after I recall, I can go here. I know whether I should go to my camps, whether I should go top lane, whether I should go mid lane. It's like very clear. I have my 3 options, 4 options, and I input information. And so when you're starting the game, you're not really creating a crazy game plan. The game plan remains kind of the same. You're just adding different pieces of information. Let's say the enemy is playing Caitlyn, Caitlyn fucking— they're playing Caitlyn Lux. What is the Cait Lux gonna do, guys? They're gonna push into our Draven. Nah, nah, we won't even say Draven. We'll say, um, Nautilus Smolder. It's awful. It's awful. But like, let's say even Nautilus Smolder. When you see this, we're not creating a game plan. We are following our standard game plan and we are adapting to the situation. So what's gonna happen here is we're gonna be under the turret and after the Krugs, this is probably gonna be warded. I'm gonna walk around, ward hop over, go through here and kill them. 'Cause I know what's going to happen when I see this matchup. And I know based off my game plan, I know what to do. Now let's say your bot lane's dead. This guy just dies 'cause he's stupid. After here, I probably recall. And I'm adapting to the game, but I have my options pre-planned. So if you're struggling right now, it's probably because you either don't trust your plan and you're thinking that you need to do different things, or you don't have a plan. And so start there, guys. All right, back to the video. And so let's talk about a mid-game sequence, for example. I have all my camps up, so everything is up and we are winning. And my mage top lane is going top lane here. And my Fiora is going here. And so the question is, do we go do all of our camps or do we play with our winning teammates and pressure the Krugs and the top turret? And it's just an equation. I know the plan, I know the flowchart, and then I follow the flowchart and I just put in information. And so let's say Syndra wants to play. She just recalled. She's running. I'm running as well. We have same tempo. I go do 1 camp, go do 2 camps, and I go help her. Let's say Syndra is recalling. She's hitting B. That means that, okay, I have all the time to do camps then because she's recalling. I go down here, I go do my Krugs. Now Syndra's walking up here. Do I go red buff and then Krugs and then Syndra dies? Or do I go Raptors, red buff, bolt into the top lane, danger ping, danger ping, and then I help Syndra? How do I know to help Syndra? You guys think to yourselves, who is susceptible on the side lane to die? It's usually your mages. And so play around your mages. But maybe let your Syndra die because she's too weak, let's say. Let her die. So she dies. Go clear towards the bot lane and then go dive with your Fiora because your Fiora is winning. And that's a game plan as well. But it depends on the information in the game. And so if you ever feel like you're struggling to make good plays, it's because you're lacking probably a game plan and structure with what to do based off information, or you have the structure and game plan and you don't have the information because you're overloaded by what's happening in the game and you can't see it from a bird's eye view. Usually, I think people struggle with the first thing, which is they just have no structure. And it's not about information. And that's what I've kind of been seeing as I've been coaching, is people just don't have a clear idea of what to do. But I promise you guys, outside of the game, if you got a map like me here and you just looked at scenarios, just ask yourself, what should I do here? Where should I be? What should my general game plan look like? Your gameplay will look a whole lot smoother. And so I'll do a deeper dive into the mid-game. The early game is a lot easier, but explaining to you guys exactly my thought process as to how I'm able to maintain this win rate, how I'm able to consistently climb to Masters, I hope this is helpful for my higher elo players who are looking to push to Masters, GM, and Chall. And if you are already Emerald, Diamond, and pushing, the biggest thing for you to do is create that game plan. Based off your champion, follow the adaptations based off what's happening in the game, and you'll just look like you're smurfing because you know what to do already. Okay guys, I hope this was helpful. I hope you guys learned something valuable in this video. I am starting up one-on-one coaching very shortly again. Take a look at one-on-one coaching on junglekingdom.gg. We have a lot of cool other tools there as well if you're interested. Otherwise, I will see you guys in the next video. Peace, peace.
