This Coaching Student Was The BEST I've Had All Year!

Perry Norman coaches a League of Legends player on jungle efficiency, emphasizing tempo gains from faster camp clearing and better wave management. He breaks down how champion matchups like Kalista and Hecarim shape positioning, and stresses that climbing to Diamond means coordinated objective control through intentional pinging and small 1-2% daily improvements.

And either way, guys, enjoy the coaching. Let's jump in and see what happened this game. Oh, wow. Like, oh, wow. Okay, so yeah, what the fuck happened? What the fuck happened? You can win this game for sure.
I think I played like shit, like after the mid game. I got my bot lane ahead, just kind of lost my mind, got outtempoed by Hecarim, took shitty fights, poor dragon fights.
Let's see here. I'm going to go from the start. We're going to play Probably like 2 to 4 times speed until I need to stop. I like your ward. Okay. Take the cone. I don't hate it. One reason why—
I did it for the extra stack. That's all.
Diana stack. Okay. So one thing I want you to be thoughtful of going forward, this is a very small thing, but it can help you. This is a lot of tempo. And let's say you need to full clear recall and come here and you want to play versus Raptors in a hypothetical. You want to do one full clear and then replay for his Raptor camp or get to the top crab faster or like get to top lane a bit quicker. Keeping this up is actually really beneficial and it speeds your clear up by about a second because you're getting your passive one auto earlier. So you need to evaluate the tempo you get from the actual 2-3 seconds that you're saving. It's very small. It's just fun things to think about like that. Like those are the optimizations you can, you can make. Okay, clear looks fine. Okay, small thing, don't path like this. Just walk at it.
No, I like mouse click stutter.
Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, okay. Walk at it. Ooh, I hate this.
Yeah, it's really late.
You need to be clearing and walking and walking and walking and you should finish it here. And the idea is you're just lazy. Like, even if I'm watching a YouTube video on my left monitor, I'm Freaking kiting my camps. It's second nature to me. So you can't be lazy like this. Bring your camp down. Bring it down. This is this is actually costing you many seconds.
Yeah.
I'm immediately queuing here. You're walking. You're stepping into territory where every second matters is is kind of my point. And and where you're you've climbed from platinum to emerald now. You're you're looking to go from emerald to diamond, and there are. There are different ways people climb to Diamond. One of the normal ways people just randomly get to Diamond is they're just really good at fighting. They're just really good at their champion. And a lot of people just like no brain, fight to the death, and they really have just natural good fighting. And that's how they climb. There's another group of people who just have a natural understanding of like where they should be. They're just decently good macro, no brain. I know a lot of Challenger players and pros who just, they don't think. Given that we've helped you learn the game, And we helped you think about the game and you're actively doing really good with that. Because you're good at thinking, what you need to do is give yourself more room and time to think and to do your plays faster. And that's why when I play, every second matters. Because although I'm not bad at fighting and although I'm not like— I don't have bad game sense, I pride myself and I know I'm best at thinking about the game. So we really need to clean up every single rotation. And what I'm really worried about Is that you do this in the next rotation and the rotation after and rotation after, and that adds up to like a minute of wasted time throughout the game that you just don't want to waste.
That's fair.
See, why are you— why are you not finishing it right here?
Oh yeah, very fair.
Oh, it's so— it's so slow. So now you have to walk extra, extra distance. Okay, cool. Hecarim jumps mid. This looks awful.
Yeah, very awful.
Okay, you trade one. Your bot lane's gonna wipe though. Oh no. Okay, okay, let's recap, let's recap. That's an important place to recap.
I mean, it is my bad for not checking as well the conditions. If they want to get a recall off, I should never be, uh, going for the Scuttle. Like, even if my mid is moving, it's a little bit difficult.
Yeah, I mean, I mean, all it really comes down to is like, this guy is here, he's playing for this wave right here, your Leona recalled. And what is Kalista ultimately playing for here? So this is the next level. Okay, so let me see if my little thing works here. Yeah, add a point. So what we're going to talk about here is— so one thing, we have efficiency. So the first thing is speed, and the second thing is understanding waves and teammates. Okay, so Kalista as a champion wants to fight. She wants to fight in her wave. She wants to fight With that sort of advantage, right? Leona is the same thing. She wants to fight in her control. She's down to start fights, but she wants to kind of do what her ADC is doing. She's useless by herself. She's also just not part of this play. It's really important to get the picture of that first when you load into game. And then as you're playing, just understanding that like they do want to fight, but how do they want to fight? Do they want to like push in the wave, then come? Do they want to control wave? Like, what are they playing for? And every champion kind of works differently. Some champions are just like, whatever, like Jhin can do anything. But Caitlyn, for example, wants to like hard push waves. Every champion kind of does something different. What's really important here is assessing that we pushed a wave in and the wave is going to come back into us. And it's super important, not because I want you to think about like Kalista can't move here, but actually I don't mind what you're doing if you do this with the intention to bring their bot lane here. And then watch what happens when you bring their bot lane here, and then your Kalista can stay in lane. Watch. Right, so in a world where your Kalista can actually just play the lane here, you're bringing them up and you're not getting yourself killed. If your mid laner dies, your mid laner dies. It is what it is. This is a great position for your bot lane. Your bot lane is very happy. If you do that with intention, you will find yourself in a lot better game states. Where your goal sometimes is not to actually play for the camp. It's not actually to play for the objective. It's not actually to go in for kills, but it's to bring people to you to either make them bleed resources or make them lose HP, make them lose conditions, or just get them in a worse position ultimately, where maybe they're walking back to lane and it's unsafe for them. But do you see how like that's playable here for your bot lane? You might be down, you know, a lot from the crab because he might get this crab. He might go for this crab. That might be awful, but then your bot lane is going to be up a giga amount. No one's going to die, or maybe your TF will die. It is what it is. You can't control whether that happens there, but that is an angle. Otherwise, you don't go bot lane at all. You recall, you go top lane. Leona recalled.
I mean, to put it simply, I was not the main character in this game, and that's perfectly fine. Like, Eclipse is the carry here.
Yeah.
How should I— how should I have— like, your entire point here was like bringing the teammates up to the fight, for example? How could I have done that in a sense?
The answer is you literally can't because of the tempo. Your chess piece is just not on the board right now. You're attacking their king and this guy hasn't been developed whatsoever. So you need to wait for them to develop, then to attack, or you just can't do it. And you probably shouldn't do it because it's not possible for him to get here to this play without you getting yourself killed or getting TF killed or him just one-shotting the crab. It's not possible. It's Yeah, they, they can't come. This, this guy is— this guy's too far away. Kalista can come, but, but Kalista is gonna get fucked by, by a 1v2 here. I go for a deploy to top side. Sounds good.
I didn't expect him to hit the Scuttle right away, I'm not gonna lie.
Yeah, he was straight for top side. You guys are both going down. It is what it is.
He didn't take his Raptors, he just went straight for that. So yeah, I was mindful of that. I was clearing down. Uh, we like— I got the bot Scuttle, so we're pretty good.
That's good.
I'm worried now of the Hecarim, so that's why I skipped my Krugs here.
Yeah, this is good. This is perfect. Very, very great idea. It's very clear, you know when, like, you know how to think about the game. It's good. You already lost.
Yeah.
Like, like, you, like, no, like, seriously, like, like, the fact that you want to play for this means you already lost. You don't know what you're playing for. And, and, and, and, like, let's say you want to play for this because they're doing the dragon. I understand. I get it. But you're not thinking about what will happen in a minute. Let me paint you this picture.
They did move. They did move.
Yeah, they did move. Well, okay. So no, no, no. Let's say in a perfect world, they're on the Dragon and this takes longer and they don't move because they don't know. Maybe you walked over a ward, right? Or maybe they just want to check it. But let's say in a perfect world, this Dragon has like 3,000 more HP, 4.5K. They're doing it here and you want to invade. It's still bad. Why? That sounds weird, right? Because you're going to get like an entire quadrant. Why is that weird? It's because you aren't playing towards what this guy and this guy want or can do. You're playing to the wrong quadrant. You're playing to the wrong side of the map. What will happen and what you could do here in, in a much clearer way, they do the dragon, you're here, right? You're here. This guy needs to be and go all the way here, here, here. By the time he gets to his first camp, because he's already here and you're already on the camp, you're probably here. So you're on your third camp. He's on his first. You one-shot this. He's here. Now look, his entire bot quadrant is open. Why is this so much better? Because now—
Because I can play with my bot. Yeah, I can play with my bot.
If these guys come to fight, aced. If this guy comes to fight, aced. You're playing with your Kalista Leona. If the Hecarim goes for the grubs here because it's about to be grub timer, well, I eat your entire quadrant, dive your ball in, and get 3 plates. And you die. You just dive them. The game is over. And how do we decide this? How do we figure this out? How do we think about this? You need to consider champions. So we're entering territory of like ELO range really of like, what do champions want? How do champions play? How can we punish the hardest? And the Sona and Jhin, you know damn well these guys can't do shit under the turret. They're just going to die to Leona Kalista. And you want to be there for that. So you spending any tempo here, even if you got +1 camp, what I'm trying to tell you is if you got +1 camp here and you did your red buff or you did his red buff and you left, And then he came to defend his Krugs and Raptors. Now he has more tempo on you. Now he has 1, 2. You have 1, 2, 3. So he can go invade you. And then what you're going to need to do is bring your bot lane to come help you. That's not good.
I believe that is actually what happened.
Let's see. But hopefully this all makes sense. I painted the picture as clearly as I could.
It does. It does. It does.
Cool. We take that.
I mean, I actually could have killed him here. It was bad mechanically.
Yeah. Yeah. Almost killed him. It is what it is. Your bot lane literally dove the enemy bot lane. I wish we were Able to be closer to this or help them plan for that. It is what it is. Hecarim ended up punishing your Leona. She took your Raptor camp. This is exactly what I was talking about. Okay, we have to see some opportunity.
It's, um, it's a flash, so it wasn't the worst, but I think, uh, there's no kill angle there regardless.
Yeah, it's a little hard. It's all good.
Leona's not 6 yet either. Yeah, yeah, I just, uh, yeah, I know Hecarim's topside too.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not bad, it's not bad. I don't— when someone's that low, you have to capitalize on that.
I don't hate it.
Overall solid, like you're doing good, you're doing, you're doing good.
I mean, the problem here was that I gave him a second dragon, so even though like I got the kill bot, the Hecarim has tempo on me and conditions on me to get the drake. Like that's not good, even if my bot lane is winning. Like that's what I was mindful of Like, it just feels bad.
I feel— I think there's just nothing you can do about the situation because there you have all-in champs and they have poke champs, and right now the conditions are just bad. If you want this Drake, you just let them recall. You just tell them, you tell them leave and recall. It's not a bad world to kill the Sona or the Jhin. Technically, it's like, it's okay, but you need to continue accelerating in the bot lane. So what I'm really— what I really need to see is like a continuation of like, break this bot turret. Like, what are you doing here? This is just a waste of your tempo. Again, this is a waste of your time. Again, clear Gromp, clear Wolves, clear Raptors, and go dive these guys. Look at what they're doing. They could die here. You want to be part of this. You want to— you like— this Jhin can't play the game. You're wrecking an entire turret here. That's his entire bot side for you to invade. You could 3-quadrant this guy the entire game, and you haven't. And that's, that's the biggest issue so far. What happens if Hecarim opens bot? Someone's asking for an earlier play. If Hecarim opens bot, just kill him. You have an ADC who's like giga ahead. He's up 2 levels here. You have a Leona versus a Sona. Just fight him and you'll win the game. So at every point in this game, I just want you to be in his bot side pressuring him with your Kalista Leona, because this is the picture that will always happen against a Jhin Sona. Like, unless your Kalista DCs, loses his brain, or like quite literally just like, like, just don't play the champion. Then you're always going to look at a picture like this, and I'm going to account for a realistic world where this is more likely to happen. So I'm going to play into it, and when it does happen, you have to adapt to it. If it doesn't happen, what you're doing is fine. Let's say in a world where your Kalista-Leona is losing somehow, what you're doing makes more sense, but they're hard winning, and I don't see you playing for these camps, playing for this pressure, playing for anything in the bot side, and it just sucks. It really does suck because here. In this fight, it's like, how are you not here faster than them? How is any of this allowed to happen to your teammates? And like, you guys do end up killing them and wiping. You end up trading. These camps should have been yours. You would have won the fight harder. You wouldn't have needed Kled TP. TF could TP, or at least as a 3-stack, like, you guys can probably trade, maybe kill 2 of them, 3 of you die, but then Kled can win 1v1 because he's up 2 levels and then TF gets a bunch of plates. Point is, the situation that you guys are in could be so much better. And it's not the end of the world. So let's keep seeing like what happens. What is the end of the world? When does it get bad?
I think it was a poor Dragon fight where we fought 4v5. So the Kled was very difficult to play with. And obviously like I have to adapt to that, sure.
But, uh— I just hate— I hate it. I hate this. You need to get away from this Vex and this TF. This is fundamental number one, right? Stop playing with your inting teammate. Go take the Herald. Go do the Gromp, go do the wolves, go do the Raptors, go do anything. Go take his Krugs, go hit the top turret. Stay away from him. Like, he is quicksand. I love this analogy because he is quicksand. The more you go near him, the more you try to help him, the more you do anything, he's going to sink further simply because resource allocation just works in League of Legends that way. Where if you give this guy more resources and he can't do anything with it because he's already inting and he's not in a great position, you giving him resources makes him go from behind to even. And That doesn't— you don't generate an advantage from someone who's even versus someone who you have ahead. If you push the lever even further on someone who's ahead, now it's 2 items versus 1. Now it's 3 items versus 4 items versus 2. Like, you can snowball the game. So you— I've seen you try to make mid plays like 2 times now. There was a time earlier where you waste a tempo mid, and there's a time here where you lose your ultimate mid. This is really bad. It's because, again, efficiency and speed. It comes back to speed. Somehow you are down so much CS against this Hecarim for no reason. Yet this Hecarim has died 2 more times than you, and you have had such an easy game with how bot lane is playing. Yet you are behind. You should be farming 9 CS per minute this game. Like in this game, you should have 140 CS at 15 minutes. Yeah, now you have no ulti. You can't do the Herald. You fight with your strong teammates.
Yeah, I was pinging them off here and I realized they They weren't going to back off.
Yeah, this is good. This is a good adaptation. But also, if bad shit happens in that top fight and you have no ulti— and look at this, because you have to farm your camps, you can't be part of this fight. If you're part of this fight—
I noticed that right away.
You win the game right away. So this is why League of Legends is so interesting, because it's like, oh, it's just a small thing. Like, oh, they should just not fight without me. No, no, no. Their fight is completely normal and fine. You need to figure out how you could have gotten there. And you inted so many times prior. To where you probably need this extra gold to get your Riftmaker. You don't, you're just inting. So you don't even need the Grump Wolves. You just feel bad because you're getting behind because you are inting progressively throughout the game. So you feel like, I need to compensate by farming, and you're not thinking about the map state. When your entire team recalls, everybody recalls with them, you are winning the game. You want to continue to accelerate the game. You do not need your camps here. You need to be with your team to teamfight with them. They're not even in— they're literally not inting. This guy's TPing back mid, catching the wave. This guy's pushing bot lane because he's fucking 2 items and stomping. The only other thing you can do is if you're farming here and you notice that your teammates are walking in a very aggressive manner, you ping them. But instead of pinging danger, you're pinging on the way and then you're fucking recalling. At the very least, just stay and then go. And I don't think the fight's gonna go bad. I think you're still gonna win the fight. But the fact that, that somebody dies on your team here and your teammates are literally fighting like a, like Like this part of the fight.
Also had to burn flashes here as well.
Yeah, like your teammates are dying and you're losing this top lane. And so they played a 4v4 and was able to win with only 3 people getting killed. Like it's bad because you're trading in a net even. How are you trading net even when you're ahead? That's the big issue. This guy is going to get 2 more plates here. That's an extra wave and deny another wave. That's so much gold. And then your teammates probably lost shutdowns too. And if Kai'Sa was part of this fight, by the way, I think you guys get wiped. Tempo. Every fight your teammates are in and you aren't, what happened? Why? And did we ping? So what you need to start doing is start reading your teammates' tempo. If you want these camps, you have to have a good reason why you are not synced up with these guys. It's the same picture. It's the exact same picture. We did an objective together. They're playing with you. And you want to do camps? That's fine. Either do camps and stay, or do camps and ping them and hope for the best. The best answer is just recall with them, take a smaller recall, and then fight. People fight when they're strong. They don't fight because they want to throw the game. They fight because they're like, I'mma kill them. And I will, because the Kalista about to have 3 fucking items. This guy will kill anybody. So go fight with them. People are like, oh, my teammates are inting. Why can't they wait? They don't— they shouldn't have to wait for you. You should just be there and you'll win the game. Your job in this game is be there with your teammates and you'll win.
I think what caught me off guard the most is that like, obviously my teammate— my team is ahead, right? And I'm down CS. So in my mind mentally, because I haven't like adapted to the fact that like I don't really matter, my CS doesn't matter in the context of winning fights. Right? Like, yes, yes, that's why I'm autopiloted toward the camp.
I see that. I, I, I, I, I— that's why I called it out earlier. Like, you feel bad from the Gromp wolves that you want to be part of the, the fight. Look, you would have way more CS if you just farmed your camps in the early game. Genuinely, if you just hit— if you just stop trying to do the shenanigans, you just stop trying to help mid, you just play towards one winning lane, you'd have more CS. And the honest answer is, progressively throughout the game, if you had just Done the easy thing that you know how to do with the intention of playing with your Kalista Leona instead of anybody else, instead of wasting time, you would not be as far behind, not feel as bad. And even if it does feel bad because the Hecarim is playing a beautiful game, let's say, and you are down CS because all Hecarim is doing is farming and you're actually—
He's playing very well.
Yeah, but I'm saying there's going to be worlds where this Hecarim is up 40 more CS than you. But just look at your game state. You don't need CS to win. There are people that you probably played against them Who are down 100 CS and they win the game. How is it possible? You just need to be at the right fights. You just need to be there at the right time. You need to be in the right position. There are some people who have like 6 CS per minute and they're like really high elo. How is it possible? They're just at the important fights. You are— you have not been at a single important fight in the last 5 minutes of the game. Every single time you don't accelerate and hard win is time they get back to come back into the game. And essentially your gold should grow while their gold stays stagnant. But what's happening is your gold is growing, their gold is growing. So the lead is the same. And it's not to say that that's a bad thing, but when you have a big lead over them, your lead should grow 2 times as much as their lead or their gold. You should have 2 times as much economy, and it's not happening here.
Very fair.
So stay here because your teammates want control. They want to get vision. They want to invade. You could fucking invade. You can do anything you want this game. You could literally go fight right now. Renekton's mid turret, invade his entire topside if you just didn't want to do your bot camps. Or you did one camp, maybe 2, recalled. Or you just recalled right away, came out of base, did Raptors, and then gone to invade. Or anything, anything. Play with them. Play with your fed teammates. And they're winning without you, right? Like, again, they literally just played like a 3v5 and won. The reason why it's bad that you aren't there in the initial is if obviously they need you and they don't play as well and they're not as fed. But also, their conditions, look at how rough they look. Like, they should— your teammates' conditions should not look as rough when you have this much of a lead.
Yeah, but there was a misplay here at some point, I believe.
I mean, Kled just saw red and just ran in. It's fine.
That's okay. I mean, it happens.
Like, this is the same thing. I'm glad we're here.
Yeah, just gave a big shutdown.
Okay, when you're this far ahead, what do you play for?
I mean, we want the Baron.
You're in the bot side, so there needs to be a reason, right? Either we're in the bot side because we want to play for camps and we want to play the spot turret. That's an honest— that's an honestly fine answer. But then every decision you make when it comes to fighting here and making plays should be in accordance to like playing for the spot turret. So Like the same way of thinking about the Baron. It's the same thing. If you want to play for the Baron, what you need to do is ping and then bring your teammates to the Baron and play for the side. And then the fight is meant to control the Baron. So right now, if this guy flashed, you guys pushed the mid wave and you went to the Baron, they'd lose the game because you're fighting and you're controlling.
Right.
And how do you make it happen? You cannot ping now. It's too late. You need to ping a minute ago. You're 1 minute late. So here's, here's my average lower elo, lower elo, like, like coacher, coper, or students, like whatever you want to call average watcher who just doesn't understand how pings work, how communication works in League. Right now, what they would do is ping the Baron. It is too late. You have not planned for a Baron. You have not given your teammates an idea that the Baron is playable. And so they have ideas of what they want to do. They have plans. I've mentioned this. They have a plan. They want— their plan is fucking break this turret and fight. You need to give them a better plan before they lock in with this plan. Otherwise, they'll int.
Very fair.
So a minute ago, you needed to assess this game that we should play for the Baron collectively. Leona should go get wards and we should go set that up. Or a better world of we should go play for the bot turret, or we can play for the mid turret. That's fine too. But then what are the actions when it comes to playing for a turret and not a team fight? Right now, I don't think you have a plan. I think you're just hovering the Callista to hover the Callista. And I can see it from the way you're fighting. There's no plan. It's like, I'm just here to be here. Every time I see you have a plan, I can see your gameplay. Your gameplay reflects it. You know what you're doing. There's no plan right here. You're just fighting to fight, which is not inherently bad. It's not inherently wrong. But when you fight to fight, you're going to do dumb shit like this, which might not feel like dumb shit, but it is dumb shit.
It definitely felt like dumb shit. It definitely felt like dumb shit.
Yeah, Kalista, you can't control Kalista killing herself. But the entire idea is like none of this should have occurred. You should have maybe gotten some pressure, get the wave, go for the Baron. They walk into you, they facecheck you, you win the game. Okay, the game has not changed. The position has not changed. Why are we not just ripping the Baron? That's what you do when you're ahead. And that's what you do in solo queue. You just pull the Baron. Why? Especially when you have tanks, especially when you're playing a champion. Diana can always do it because your Diana W is really strong.
And, and it's not hard Baron either.
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Even if it's hard Baron, I still will do it, by the way. You need to, you need to threaten the idea you're doing it so they face check you and they die. Who can face check on their team? Maybe they have—
We also have a Kalista too, so you technically have better smite.
Yeah, so if it comes to it, you can. But, but realistically, the Hecarim can face check you. He face checks you, he's probably losing his ult or half his HP bar. If anybody else face checked, walk into your control and you turn on them, the game is over. You're up so much gold Kalista's life just gets harder and harder as the game progresses because she'll get more and more outranged and she can pop off and still win the game. But this game feels so awful because I don't feel like you're controlling the game. You don't need to be hard-winning to suggest good ideas. You don't need to be the board member of a business to suggest a good idea. You can be anyone, right?
Right.
So you could be TF and if TF's like, yo, the Baron might be a good idea. Like, yeah, they're thinking like, oh wait, you know what? Yeah, probably. Okay, let's go do it. The fact is you're doing good already and you should want to think like this. You should want to control the game. You might not be the main character, you might not be the hard carry, but it doesn't mean you can't control the pace of the game. And this game, you haven't been controlling the pace.
When I initially lost this game, not necessarily that I cope, I mean, I try to review all the games that I lose to begin with. I kind of not necessarily blame the Kled in my head, but it's like, okay, maybe if the Kled had been with us in those tough team fights, we would have wiped them or had a different outcome. After I realized that, okay, like this game was fully within my grasp, like 100%.
Oh yeah, all of it. Players like Kled are just— they'll exist always. Like they're doing their job. Like Kled is a champion and some of these split push champions, they're just not meant to team fight. They can, but like most people, they won't. And that's fine. It's not like they're playing Maokai splitting. That's when you have like full rights to get really frustrated. If you have an Ornn top lane who just won't group. Yeah, that's fucked up. But this Kled, he's doing his damn job. He's breaking tier 2 after tier 2, plate after plate, solo kill after solo kill, pressure after pressure. It's not him, it's you guys. This is the same picture here, really, like, in a way where, um, I mean, you guys turn into dragon, which is good.
Well, no, this is, this is where we— I believe we lost the game here. Like, this is the turning point of the game. Yeah, so I think pretty poor targeting for me, especially I should have targeted the Jhin a little bit harder here.
I'm trying to frontline for— It's not the Jhin. Let me, um, let me just, let me just, let me just show you everything happening here. It comes back to the second thing, right? The second thing of understanding waves, specifically your teammates. Look at where you are and look at where your Leona and Kalista are. Yeah, it's 5v4. Yeah, it's 5v4. You guys, we can win this 5v4. Look, Kalista has 4 items. This Kalista is worth 3 champions. or more. This guy's Thanos.
Sure.
It isn't like, like, like, you got— oh, like they're 5v1ing me. Yeah, 5v1 on an Olaf with 6 items. They're—
they—
you're dead. You lost the game. Like, this guy is that strong. So he is the lobby admin right now. He's in creative mode. And what I see immediately is this: you running, and okay, you match it, you match it, and then you walk back. The moment you see this guy walk forward, keep walking forward. That's it. Just keep walking forward. So first things first, you're not 100% watching where Kalista's movement is. Which ends up you walking backwards and Kalista's going forward. You're slow.
Very fair.
You're slow with watching Kalista's movement. Not good. Second thing, when you go in, you find the angle on the Vex with your team, get a good combo, and you kill the Vex. Great. Your Kalista can hit their frontline— sorry, their backline in this case, but hit a target. When your teammate can hit a target and they're not getting hit, you walk back. So picture you are a You have the swordsman, the tank. You're like the tank and swordsman. So you have to have shield and sword. There's an archer behind you. He's really strong. At every point in time you walk forward, your archer should have free rein to do whatever he wants. But that doesn't mean you run into everybody. That doesn't mean you go into all of their team to get yourself killed. Your archer is busy killing the person in front of him. He can't help you. And even if he can help you, you still can't jump into all of them. So this is the problem with tanks as well. This is worse on Diana, but you, you did your job. Now wait and walk away because right now your Kalista— you look, look at where you are. You're here in, in the group. He can hit you, he can hit you. Kalista can't hit anyone because you positioned just too far away for your Kalista. You want to be here so when Hecarim hits you or Sona hits you or Jhin hits you, your Kalista can now fuck everybody over. Do you see how, how these small decisions shape a fight? I'm going to play it slowly here. You're going forward. And now, so now you've taken an extra 25% of your HP, maybe 20%, and your Kalista hasn't got a single auto off. And now that your Kalista can start hitting, instead of you walking backwards, recovering your HP, recovering your spells, your W, which gives you all the shielding you would ever want to tank longer, you've done your job. You've tanked their items. You've tanked their autos, their spells. And you've given your tank— sorry, your carry a position where they can hit the enemies and you've created space for them. But you need to be able to walk away. Instead of walking away and chilling, you walk back in. And that's not good because that puts the fight on their control. The idea is if you walk back here and they chase you, Kalista kills everybody. If you go forward here, Kalista has to spend time chasing them and then terrain gets worse usually as you play into Enemies put position in control. If you bring them to you for whatever reason, they come and they want to kill you really badly, they get fucked harder because it's your control. And then guess what? Bing! You gotta play with the rest of your team. Then this guy, if you walk back and they chase you, this guy can come here and actually play. I think he might be trying— I don't know what he's trying to do. Like, he can play though if you bring the fight to you. Okay, so you go in too deep, and I know the Zhonya's might make you feel like, oh, I'm safe. I'm safe. To do this, but look, if you guys brought the fight backwards, it would have been so much better from you know it's my fault.
It's my fault. I agree.
Right? So it's really important to like watch the the literally the the the micro movements of what your carry is doing, the spacing of your carry, and like you need to tether with that in mind. So right now he can hit for free, so I walk back, and if these guys walk in, then it's better because then my my My backline can actually hit them. And if I'm going forward, it's because my backline needs me to be there for them. But you traded too much HP. You lost too much HP while your ADC couldn't hit anybody. And that's probably the biggest root issue. And you had no plans of escaping to live, which is another root issue. You thought, oh, if I go in and create space for my carry, he can hit them. He'll just kill them all. Like, no, he needs a lot of time. He's not playing a burst champ and they got a Death's Dance. And this guy has a lot of defenses. So you need time.
I definitely felt too safe. I also had Flash up too, so I'm like, okay, I can keep going a little bit here and see what I can do, but it's all bad.
I agree.
Yep. At this point, it's a hard game.
Very hard. I think it's just one more teamfight and then maybe you guys can win. It's just another teamfight. If you guys can play another teamfight well, you guys are fine. Your Kalista is still Thanos. Nothing has changed. So what we're going to do is look at the next teamfight in the same way. Do you mirror Kalista's movements? Okay, let's just got jumped in the mid lane. This one's just unlucky. It is what it is.
It happens. I mean, it's not. I'm not going to say that like it's not her fault. Like this stuff happens. Like I could have played better earlier. Like I could have played better.
Yes, yes, exactly. You had like exactly. Yeah, yeah, you do have all all the opportunities to play this game better. So see, like this doesn't happen. This is true, and that is the honest answer. And I'm glad you can come to that conclusion yourself as well as like yeah, it sucks reporter. But like it is what it is. That's actually very unlucky with everything that happened. I think you got hit by a Ludens. And then, and then like a flying Jhin W.
I think she got hit by, uh, the, uh, yeah, the Vex W or the Kai'Sa— or Kai'Sa ult. Sorry, uh, Vex ult.
No, no, it's a Luden's. The, the Luden's, the, the W hit the minion because she dodged it, procced Luden's on the Kalista, and then Jhin W fucked her here.
Kai'Sa needs to play the lottery.
Like, actually though, it's very unlucky. That's actually crazy. Yeah, it's actually super sad. Looking back at this game, tempo, speed, how fast you clear your camps and how fast you're doing your shit, you need to lock this in. Understanding your teammates and how they play their waves. I think it's more about this, understanding teammates and how they want to play, super important. And just understanding teammates in general and their teammates' tempos, very specifically like their tempo. And the last one we looked at was their teammates fighting. This applies to every single game you're playing. So I know like some of your recent games you were doing really well, right? You're doing great.
You're doing great.
You're doing great. This applies to every single game no matter what. Like how does Fizz play? How does Gwen play? What's their positioning, etc., etc.? This game, how does Pantheon play? How does Jhin play? What's their spacing? Am I going too far in? Am I going too slow for my Pantheon? Do I need to go in deep, etc., etc.? It really—
That game was a little bit of a fiesta, but yeah, I understand.
Right.
That makes sense.
The fighting needs to align with what what your teammates are doing. And it's really funny here, your top laner pinged 3 times, your mid laner pinged 10, you pinged 130. This is why junglers have to ping. You guys pinged 2 times as much as them, almost 3, because they're junglers.
Enemy Heimer was 0 and 10, or 0 and 10 at 5 minutes.
Me and Pantheon took over that game.
It was good, it was good, it was good. Yeah, so just a general question, right? So like, what do you think is the biggest step that I have to take in order to like, let's say, climb to Diamond? Like, in terms of what you've seen so far, like, um, Yeah, that's just my general question. So like, I feel like I'm playing well. I feel like I'm playing better week to week. I feel like the people that I play against are not better than me by any means. It's just like decisions that I have to make for myself that will net me more wins, for example.
I don't think anybody likes hearing this answer, and I for one hate it, but it's the reality. Like when I'm getting coached or when I'm like talking through anything mental or anything at all, And the answer is it takes time and consistency. I hate it, but that's the reality here. What you need to do is stay consistent with what you're doing. Do not drop off and lose things that you've already built and you've worked on and continue to ever so slightly improve those things by 1%. Everything you know how to do, you can make that better by 1 to 2% at every point in every single part of the game, like your clear speed, Your micro movements, your decision-making. Maybe it's a little too slow, maybe it's a little too fast. Like, all these small things add up, and it isn't just one thing right now with where you are that's holding you back.
That's very fair.
I think some people it's very obvious. Some people it's like, yo, like, this is just— you're just— you're like a 1 out of 10 when it comes to clearing and a 10 out of 10 at fighting. You need to work on your clearing. That doesn't exist for you. I think also because we've been working together already for about a month. Um, a little over a month or something.
Um, so we, we have like, uh, I mean, collectively, oh, it's been a while. It's probably been like, it's been 3 months, but only let's say 100 games.
Yeah, yeah. So it hasn't been— yeah, that's why it's only feel like a month.
It's been only 100 games, which is not a lot of games.
And, and we go from like one session and I'll see you in a month. Uh, so that's kind of— yeah, but the point is you've built your framework in a way where you're a general consistently good player, make all those things ever so slightly better The main high-level concepts you apply are these 3 things. And then I think if there's one big thing that I spotted that's like, okay, if you fix this, I think your win rate will immediately just ever so slightly improve. It's your pinging. And I know that it's like, bro, I actually ping so much already. I think we've talked about it last time too.
No, last time you said that you'd rather me ping less but ping more within 10.
Yes, within 10. It's the same thing. Your pinging, With not enough intention on the timers that I need you to ping. You're recalling and somehow your teammates are walking aggressively. You're not telling them. Somehow your Kled wants to go forward. You're not looking at the map and telling him you'll back off. You're not giving him a better idea. Somehow you— well, this is like a more decision-making thing and more of like a macro thing, but you're not thinking about the Baron that you could very easily play for when you're up 8K gold or 6K gold. So like pinging with more intention. That's like very, very, very, very, very big one. Cool. Are there any, like, follow-up questions to that?
Uh, no, I don't have any follow-ups to that, no. But, uh, yeah, I mean, I'll definitely try to be more mindful of the stuff we talked about and, uh, yeah, that's about it.
Okay, okay.
Anyway, I appreciate it. Thank you so much.
All right, bro. I will see you around. Take care.
