A friend of mine said, I'm in all these useless meetings. I think that's a feeling we can all relate to, attending a meeting where we're asking ourselves, why am I here? What are we trying to accomplish? Couldn't this have been an email? And so it made me think, what is the advice that I can give to somebody who's in that situation? The thing I always mention is ask the people inviting you, saying, do I need to attend this meeting? What are we trying to accomplish? And how will my participation add value? And if they don't have a clear answer to that, maybe suggesting saying, hey, well, maybe you guys can do this without me. I think we're often on autopilot where we just accept meeting invites and we go and participate even though we don't really have anything to contribute. And even though it's not clear what the outcome is going to be. Try that the next time you're in a meeting situation that you don't want to be in. Have a conversation with the host. Figure out whether you need to attend and maybe don't in the future.
