Peter Sorgenfrei explains how to prevent resentment when life gets hectic. Tell your partner about stress coming, apologize ahead of time, listen when they complain, and focus on changing yourself rather than fixing them.

I don't think you can avoid building resentment at home during busy periods. But I think it starts with acknowledging and saying, hey, I think a busy period is coming up. So I will probably be more absent mentally and physically. I will probably be more stressed. I will try not to let that affect our relationship, but it might happen. So I'm just announcing it now so that you're aware that It will happen, and I'm sorry, and I will try and fix it when it does. And then when it does happen and your partner calls you on it, or if you're resentful for whatever reason, sit with the feeling and say, hey, it feels like you're resentful, or it feels like we have a conflict. What's going on? Ask them, and then just listen and acknowledge your part in it. Don't try to fix them. Stay on your side of the fence, so to speak, and just take in what they're saying. Process it and see what you can do different. It's about fixing you, not them.
