You need to generate tons of ideas, most of them bad, to find the good ones. Like baseball, you swing at many pitches knowing most will miss, but occasional home runs emerge. The real value of an idea often only becomes clear later.

Sometimes we fall in the trap of trying to get only good ideas, or really early on focused on saying, that's a bad idea, that's not a good idea, this is a great idea, this is the idea we're going to do. But the reality is you have to not hit home runs every single time, to use a baseball analogy. You have to swing at a lot of balls, and sometimes you hit a home run and sometimes you don't. Same thing in business. You basically have to have a ton of bad ideas to eventually at some point end up with that one really good idea. And the trick is you may not know what the good idea is until way later. So there's a myriad of examples of companies that have started doing things that they thought was a good idea that wasn't, but also the other way around, started doing something that they thought, ah, this is not the best idea, but we're going to try it out, and it turned out to be a great idea. So just remind yourself of this. You're not going to hit all home runs. You're going to have a bunch of bad ideas. Stay with them, work on them, learn from them, and then the good ideas are going to start coming.
