When you build something with new technology like blockchain, people shake their heads at first. When you improve something existing, they nod immediately. The speaker says these reactions flip over time: novel ideas eventually win approval while incremental ones fade if they don't deliver.

When you build something new because technology has enabled you to do that, like things on the blockchain, for example, a lot of people in the beginning will kind of shake their heads and not necessarily understand what you're doing or how it'll become valuable versus if you build something on some existing technology to try and improve things and make things better or faster in a more traditional sense, most people will be like, oh yeah, that's genius. That's great if you can improve this process or this thing. And so as we're building new companies and doing new things, just remember early on, new technology, new area, a lot of head shaking. Later on, a lot of head nodding. And with traditional industries and traditional and existing technology, There'll be a lot of nodding early on, and then maybe when they don't see the huge benefits later on, they'll be like, oh, that was a waste of time. So something to keep in mind as people react to your ideas.
