Peter Sorgenfrei argues that you should address misunderstandings with partners, friends, or family right away instead of letting them sit and grow. Unresolved conflict festers. Talk about it.

You know how we communicate with people that know us extremely well, yet oftentimes we actually don't hear what the other person is saying? That has happened to me recently. And actually, for a few months, we went around and thought we had this conflict, which we didn't have, because essentially we didn't understand each other. We didn't understand what we were talking about. And so finally today we got to talk about it, and we both realized that the assumptions that we made about what the other person thought was false. And there are 2 things in this. One is, if something feels off, or if something feels like you're misunderstood, you need to keep talking about it at the moment, not let it linger for months like we did. And secondly, once you do talk about it, it just makes you feel so much better, right? If there's something— if there's some misunderstanding between you, your partner, your friends, your parents, and you, address it now, get it resolved. It's not worth for it to linger.
