Great operators solve problems and execute strategy. Good board members stay quiet, read the materials, and ask questions that surface issues. Know which role you're in.

Great operators in companies are very action-oriented. So they, of course, understand and know the strategy. They understand and know the priorities. And then they're good at taking action and doing things. On the other side, we have what great board members are. They're kind of like me right now, right? They blend into the background a little bit. But they're there, present and ready. They've read the materials before the board meetings. And then they step up and ask the right questions whenever needed. Rather than solving the problems, they kind of raise some of the issues that might arise during the solving of the challenges that the companies face. So that's the difference between great operators or great company leaders and great board members, knowing whether or not you're the one who has to take action or whether or not you're the one just to ask the right questions.
