If You’re Doing Everything, You’re Leading Nothing.

Peter Sorgenfrei tells startup CEOs that doing everything yourself means you're not leading. Spend time hiring for culture first, then delegate real ownership to your team.

This is one of my favorite topics. The most common mistake that startup CEOs and founders do is they do everything themselves, right? You've gotten to a certain point, you have a team, yet you're still editing the marketing newsletter, or you're still down packing every night because we can pack up more orders, we can send more stuff out. So doing everything yourself is probably the most common mistake. Number 2 is spending too little time on hiring. Essentially, we need people, so we just bring them in. But a CEO and a startup founder, they need to spend a ton of time getting to know the people who want to work for them and make sure that they fit the culture first. Skills second, culture first. And the third mistake is not relying on their team, not being good at delegating in general, not just delegating tasks, but actually delegating responsibility and saying, you know what, Christina, this is your thing. You got it. I trust you. Go do, and everything will be good.
