Peter Sorgenfrei uses a provocative thought experiment to argue that internal reputation matters more than external. Would you rather be the world's worst lover but know you're the greatest, or be known as the greatest but actually be the worst? How you show up to yourself beats what others think.

Internal versus external scorecard. So listen to this. Would you rather be known as the world's worst lover, but know that you're the world's greatest lover, or be known as the world's greatest lover, but actually be the worst lover? Thinking about it this way is a little unusual, perhaps, in business. But the reality is what you know you to be is actually what matters the most. Whether or not the outside world recognizes that or knows that, it matters less because at the end of the day, it is you who shows up and do what you do, and people will have the experience of what you know you can do, not what your reputation may or may not be.
