Vladimir Horowitz said "just play the wrong notes, just play." A CEO tolerates mistakes, but the team doesn't know it, so they freeze instead of experimenting. Action beats inaction, even when it fails.

Vladimir Horowitz, the American-Russian pianist, said, you must not worry about playing the wrong notes. Just play. Just play the wrong ones. Just play. I was reminded of this yesterday speaking to a team that is trying to come together around the fact that there's a culture of not necessarily making mistakes or worry about making mistakes. And it's quite clear that the founder and CEO of this company Is okay with the mistakes, is okay with people trying things out, but it hasn't been communicated clearly, right? They haven't had that conversation. So yesterday we talked about, well, action is much more important than inaction. Doing something and it turning out to be quote unquote wrong is a better learning than not doing anything and not moving forward. So if there's something that you're worried about doing and worrying about doing it wrong, maybe just do it, see how it pans out. And as Horowitz said, just play.
