A speaker uses skiing and driving metaphors to argue you should focus on where you're heading, not the obstacles in front of you. Look between the trees. Hit the apex of the curve.
Chapters
When you ski or snowboard, for that matter, where there are trees, you're taught to not look at the trees but look between the trees in order not to hit them. The same thing goes when driving a car. If you're going into a tight turn and you're going fast, and I'm imagining you on a racetrack here, you're supposed to look as far ahead in the curve as possible to actually get the best apex through that turn. And it's similar in business and your career, really. So where you're looking is where you're heading. So as you think about what you want to accomplish, rather than looking at kind of the issues that are right around you, look a little bit further ahead, look towards what you want to become or what your business needs to be. And that's then where you're going to be heading rather than heading into the trees or heading into the obstacles that most certainly will be around you and perhaps even in your way along this journey.
