Epictetus taught that progress comes from daily self-work, not luck. You can't control what others think or do, only how you respond to your own thoughts and what actions you take. That's where real change happens.

Epictetus said, progress is not achieved by luck, but by working on yourself daily. Epictetus, of course, is my favorite Stoic, and he's so right that whatever progress we're looking for in life, whether it's mental progress or physical progress, financial, relationship progress, the only thing we can do is working on ourselves. We can't control what others do or don't do. We can't control what others think or don't think. We can only control 2 things, he said. How we relate to our thoughts, and the actions that we take. If you're looking for progress, the only thing to do is to work on yourself daily.
