The excerpt is an English first-person monologue by a single speaker describing an upcoming trip to Lanzarote with his son, explaining why he values impromptu vacations and short breaks—especially for founders and businesspeople—as a way to boost creativity, productivity, and family experience. I'm going on a vacation tomorrow in the middle of May. There's no holiday. My son is being taken out of school, and we're going to Lanzarote to go play sports, surf, eat food, work out, hang out for a week. He's young enough that I can take him out of school without it being an issue, and I'm old enough to know that those kind of experiences matter just as much as the regular curriculum he otherwise would be in. For many business people, for many founders, taking a vacation sometimes feels like a guilty pleasure, like something that you shouldn't really be doing, but you really enjoy doing. I've written about this topic many, many times. I actually believe that vacations or small breaks are what makes us more creative, more productive, and better business builders. So for the next week, I'm going to be having a lot of fun being very active with him. Hopefully you're enjoying some warmer, sunnier weather than we have here in Denmark. I might check in from time to time on stuff. I might write a little bit for LinkedIn because I enjoy it. I'll do it at times when he's asleep or when he's doing something with some friends because next week is all about me and him having a good time and getting some exercise in. On a vacation. If you're considering going away, if you've kept yourself from doing it, ask yourself, why not? What's going to happen? Can I get it organized in a way so that it doesn't impede on other things? And I think you will find that the time and the financial investment is very well worth it. So take more vacations and see you on the other side.
