Anthony Powell called self-love "unrequited" because most people don't love themselves enough. It's easier to care for others than to turn that same compassion inward. The speaker asks how you might actually nurture your own well-being.

Anthony Powell said, self-love seems so often unrequited. Unrequited is a fancy word for not returned, and by that he meant we don't really love ourselves enough. We don't really care for ourselves enough. It's easy for us to care about others, to kind of show our loves outward, how we feel about them, but it's very difficult to actually do that to yourself.
