What I Wish I Could Tell Myself Before I Burned Out

A man who burned out severely in 2019 shares what he'd tell himself: your worth isn't your exhaustion, ask for help instead of isolating, and notice the slow boil before it's too late.
Chapters
The one thing I would tell myself if I could speak to that person that was burning out in 2019 is you do not have to prove your worth through your exhaustion. I took pride in the fact that I was on 2 planes every single week, that I was raising millions of dollars, that I was building a large team. I kind of thought that that was who I was and that was what made me worthy for other people's attention or other people's care. That's simply not true, and that's what I would tell that person. The other thing I would say is you do not have to do it alone. Let people in. Everybody around me would have helped me and supported me if they'd known what I was going through, but I didn't tell anybody. And the reason I didn't tell anybody is I had no clue. It's kind of like the frog in the bottom of the pot, right? You turn on the heat, the water gets warmer and warmer, but the frog doesn't know it's going to get boiled. If it doesn't jump out. That's what burning out feels like. You have no idea it's happening until it's too late.
