Founders should spend time on two things: decisions only they can make, and long-term strategic thinking. As your team grows, the question shifts from how to do it to who should do it, freeing you to focus on what matters most.

I get this question a lot. What should a founder actually spend time on? There are 2 things that a founder should do. One is make decisions, and the other one is think strategically about where the business is going to go. So that sounds very simple, but in principle, it's about saying, what is it that only I can do in this business? And what should somebody else be doing? So in the beginning, of course, you're doing everything yourself, but over time there will be other people in the business. So the most important decision is to say, what should somebody or who should be doing this rather than how should we be doing this. So delegating it out and then worrying about the things where only this founder person can make the decisions. And the second thing is thinking about the future. Reserving your time so that you can think about how to evolve the business. Those are the two things. So make decisions and think about the future.
