A coach shares William Burroughs' idea that your mind can answer its own questions if you wait long enough. His method: 30 minutes without your phone, sitting or walking outside, noticing smells and sounds. The practice quiets decision fatigue so answers can surface.

William Burroughs said, your mind will answer all questions if you learn how to wait for them. I was reminded of this quote yesterday when a client who is running around making a million decisions, not relaxing, felt like she was not making the right decisions or had trouble deciding on options. I worked with her like I work with many clients on how to meditate. And meditation can be many things. It doesn't mean sitting on the mat It doesn't mean saying om. It can be just going for a walk and sensing the environment around you. And the thing that I prescribe most often is 30 minutes alone, no devices, no input, so no headphones, no screens, sitting on a bench, sitting outside, observing the senses, the smells, the sounds, the feeling of the sun on your skin, the feeling of the air. And that's how you learn to calm down your mind and maybe find those answers within.
