Welcome back to the show. I'm your host, Phil Risher. And on today's episode, we're going to be discussing how to build a business that runs without you with Dave Moorman. Thanks so much for joining us today, Dave.
Yeah, man, thanks for having me on. We're going to have some fun.
Yeah, I completely agree. We're jobber buddies. We're also home service guys. We love the trades. So you're, you are the home service business coach and the founder and CEO of Revive Services. Can you tell us? Revive Services. So obviously you, you run a business but then you also coach people on how to run a good business, Is that right?
Yeah, that's exactly right. You got it.
So what is Revive Services? What do y' all do?
Yeah, so we started in 2017. We specialize in exterior home maintenance. So a lot of window cleaning, roof cleaning, house washing. We did also add on. In 2019 we added on a holiday lighting division. So we actually stay very Busy now in Q4 with a lease model for Christmas lights, which I love talking about. And then this last year we added on an exterior painting division as well. So we're kind of a three division company. We rebranded from Revive Washing to Revive Services and we run those three divisions now. So yeah, we're turning eight years old this year. We're a team of nine. And it's been been a fun business to be part of.
Yeah, very cool. And then I think the main reason I reach out to you to be on this show is because you have mastered the art of kind of being the CEO founder title and running a business without being stuck on the truck or in actually doing the services though you have done the services before. So could you tell us a little bit about how you kind of got into the trades? You were doing painting and that kind of stuff. But can you tell us a little about how that happened?
Yeah, man, for sure. It actually started I went to college playing as a central A center back for our soccer team. So I got my schooling paid for and I was playing soccer. I ended up getting two concussions in within the 30 day time span. And I went and saw like head trauma specialists and they said like, Dave, we know you love soccer but you actually can't play anymore. So I was just like gutted. I'm in my second year of business school and a friend of mine ended up bumping into a campus recruiter. And this is like 2009, so there's like CD ROMs, right? And on the CD ROM it was like make $20,000 in a summer. And this is before inflation. Like, it was a lot of money for. For a student. I was making 14 bucks an hour before at a grocery store. So I. I ended up taking it home to my parents. And my dad said, you should jump in. And my mom was like, this sounds kind of like a scam, you know, make that much money. But I signed up that week and signed up to paint houses. So I ended up almost quitting Phil in my first year, kind of.
