Referrals are great, but depending on them is dangerous. I can't tell you how many times I talk to business owners and I ask them how do they get leads coming into their business and they tell me referrals and word of mouth. And then I say, okay, well what's the plan to get more of those? And they say, oh well, they'll just reach out to us when they need us. The problem is that that's not a system. Referrals come in whenever they want, but you need a process to architect your growth. Here's how you do that. One, you could set up a referral process. Like you could go out and get more referral partners. Inside of a referral system, and you know that when you get a referral partner that you incentivize to send you referrals, that it's a system that's generating referrals for you. The problem is most people just leave it to chance and they're stuck. This is exactly what we did at my home service business. It was $3 million, and $1.5 million of that was HVAC contractors that sent us referrals because we had a full-on partnership, and it was my job to scale that partnership. It can be done, and it could generate multi-millions of dollars for your home service business.
