In this video, we're going to discuss how to get featured in different articles. So this was an article four years ago that, this is me and my dog that I got featured in. And I had a really good story that I was able to get featured. But I'm going to show you the process and the strategy that I was able to use to get in this article specifically. And I'm also going to explain the benefits of why having a backlink to your website is so important. So the first thing that you want to do, and this is free, you want to go to helpareporter.com and what this platform is, is journalists are looking to interview subject matter experts or sources to put them in their article. So you can go to I am a source. And then it's going to say, okay, you know, in order to join, you're going to do this. Most importantly, you're going to get three emails a day, Monday through Friday at these specific times with requests from reporter media outlets worldwide. Scan through, if you're knowledgeable about any of the topics, answer the reporter directly through the anonymous elperreporter.net email address. So this is the most important thing that you're going to do. So you're going to go here, you're going to click sign up, go through that process. And so three times a day you're going to get an email that looks like this Haro, I subscribe to the business and finance queries. Again, this is free. And then they're going to list out all the ones here. So typically what I do is I look at the output, the outlets, because like, quickly, I don't even know what that is. You know, I probably Anonymous. Okay, those are decent. When I was first starting out, I would just apply to all of these that I had something unique to say about. But now I'll kind of go down and like, okay, Mike, I know that one. Obviously, Forbes, you know, there's a bunch and they come out a Business Insider three times a day. So let's say how Peloton handled crisis situation involving actor Chris Knoss. Let's say you had a perspective about this for whatever business or whatever you do. You can click this and it's going to show you here what they're looking for. I'm seeking a brief comment as soon as possible today about how Peloton handled blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And you can see that the name of the person that's writing this article is here. So what you would do is you would click this email and then you would respond to this and there's the requirements. And it would send a notification to Edward Siegel and say, hey, you have a response. So what happens from here is they may respond back to and say, thank you for your feedback. We'll let you know if you're included in the article. They may not even get back to you and they'll just put you in there. What I like to do is put in here a brief synopsis of why I have the platform that I should to share. So, you know, hey, I have, I've had a peloton for two years and I also like this movie that this guy Chris is in. And here's my perspective. I'm also a business leader, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, right? So it's kind of unique to this situation. And then at the end I say, if you want to discuss further, then please contact me and give them my cell phone and my email address. If they email me back and say, hey, thank you so much, you know, here's a follow up question or thank you so much, let's set up a time to talk or thank you so much, we've included your stuff. Then, then I go a step further and I say, awesome. I share topics about, you know, growing local service businesses. So if you ever need commentary, this is my email and my phone number. Please feel free to reach out to me directly and I'm happy to help. So you start to kind of build that relationship of being a subject matter expert. And then once you do that, you start to build some relationships with these, with these authors or these writers. Then let's say that you go to Edward Siegel and you say, okay, well, we know now that he writes for Forbes, right? And maybe he just includes a little snippet like, hey, I interviewed Phil Risher, put him in his article. It's not featured specifically about me, but you get a backlink to your website and you get a little snippet, you can say, you know, I was in a specific article. So now we know Edward Siegel writes for Forbes specifically and he knows people at Forbes in some capacity. So we can go to his Twitter and read about him. So it looks like he has this website, he's the CEO of two trade associations. He's got some LinkedIn stuff. So we would connect with him on LinkedIn. He's got this book. So maybe we would get this book and read it, or we would do something about this book and we would go to his website and we start to learn a little bit about him and see if there's an email address. And on LinkedIn we would connect with him and send him a message and say, hey, I was the guy that responded to your helper reporter out inquiry. I look forward to connecting with you. I also just ordered your crisis ahead book or whatever. I watched your YouTube videos. Da Da da da. Really interesting stuff. You know, let me know if you'd like to speak further. I'd be learned I'd be interested in lear more about what you got going on. So you really start to cultivate the relationship with these writers. And so that's exactly what I did. So on this article, Andrew Josewit is his name. I don't know this person specifically, but what happened was he is the founder of a company called Student Loan Hero. And so Student Loan Hero, I had a, you know, I paid off my student loans story and so they had a thing on here that was under Student Loan Hero. And I just responded to it. I was responding to a bunch of them before I got, I focused on just specific ones that I wanted to. And they put me in a small article. And so what I did was I went to the founder and I tweeted at him, I tweeted at the business. And then I also talked with the writer that put me in the small article and said, hey, let me know if you'd be interested in doing a feature article for Student Loan Hero specifically. And they said, yeah, sure. So they actually did a feature at Student Loan Hero on me. Well, they also, Andy also, I looked him up. He writes for Forbes, right? So he has all, all these things. So then I said, okay, well maybe they would be interested in using this as a feature article for him. So I actually gave them this idea to write this article and you start building a relationship as a subject matter expert. I'm available. Let's hop on a call, let's do some emails, right? And you're working your network. So then this article got posted, I got linked back to it, and now I can say, yeah, this article was featured. So you have to have a good story, but at the same time you have to work the relationship and add value and be available and be of service to these people. So this is a really great way. And even if you're, you know, you're not shooting to get into Forbes, but you want to just get some backlinks to your website. This is a great way to get backlinks. And the reason that backlinks are so beneficial is because Google says, okay, well Forbes is saying that this company is legit and they're linking back to that website, so that must mean that they are legit. And you can use this social proof on your website and say, yeah, we were featured in, you know, Business Insider. We were featured in this. We were featured in that. And it's instant credibility when you go on sales meetings or talk to people. And even from a personal perspective, if you put that on your resume, people are like, wow, yeah, this person's getting after it. So it's a great, great tool. The other way that you can do this is you can go, I used to use Yahoo. Finance a lot. And the way that I would do this is I would go and find articles that, you know, theoretically I should be featured in because I had a specific money story. And so I would go here and say, okay, you know, let's find one that was relevant to me. Let's just take this one. When to take Social Security, the complete guy. And I would go down and find the author of this specific article on Investopedia. So if you see here, we have three people that we can follow. So we have Amy. So let's go to Amy, Company info. So she's from Washington. And it's kind of funny because I feel like. I know that. I feel like I've looked her up before. But if you go to her website, right. She obviously is a writer and she writes about a bunch of different things. So I would go here and you can read a little bit of a snippet about her, and then I would contact her in some capacity and maybe that's going to her LinkedIn, her Twitter or her website and seeing if she has email available. And I would say, hey, Amy, I saw your article about when to take Social Security and the complete guide. I really liked when you said, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. I have a unique perspective on this because boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Maybe you'd be interested in discussing ways to use my story in your articles. These writers are always looking for evergreen content and content they can share the next story, the next story, the next big thing, the next hot thing. And so this is a great way to take your story and leverage it and allow other people to use it that they might not know you and just like come across your YouTube channel or your LinkedIn or something, but being more of a hunter rather than a farmer. One other tip that I can give you about this is once you get into these articles, you can use them as leverage. So let's say that I was featured in the Forbes article and I did this, featured in this article. And then I found on CNBC that there was another article about someone else who paid off student loan debt. So I went and found the writer, just like I found Amy here. And I actually tweeted at him and I said, hey, I saw you wrote this article about blah, blah, blah, blah. I was actually just featured in Forbes and they wrote about blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And so maybe you might be interested in featuring me in an article for you. Instant social proof, instant credibility. He said, yeah, absolutely. Let's hop on a call. Boom. And then I was in that article. So you can start to level, level, level, level more and more articles and more and more social proof on top of it. To take it a step further, you could go to news outlets. You know, you could do the same strategy and go to local reporters and say, hey, I was just in this article. You know, maybe you'd be interested in talking to me. So the reason that I'm sharing this content is because so many businesses struggle with how do you get social proof and in articles? And one really great part of search engine optimization is getting backlinks. And so this is a strategy that we've used for our clients, and it's a really great way for our companies to help and get featured in different places. So be sure to like and subscribe.
