Phil Risher explains why having standards fails without daily follow-through. His team built a performance matrix displayed each day, creating visibility and friendly competition. He recommends starting small with quarterly meetings to build the habit before scaling.
That was a big thing that I learned at Enterprise because they coached that into us was just the standards. And then if you want to change something, then you have to have very good follow-through over and over again. Obviously with team members, it's more like what you want them to do. You have to have that as your standard. So like we built like a matrix where it tracked all their performance and then every single day they'd come in and see their stuff. So then they would compete against each other where if you never talk about it, then they're never going to know. And then you wonder why nothing moves. I think a lot of times it's just hard because there's so much stuff going on. If you're listening to this and you're a business owner, we're saying a lot of this stuff, but just like start with one thing, like a quarterly get-together.
