Phil Risher explains how hero syndrome kills growth: a California business owner doubled estimates from 70 to 140 monthly but closed only 30 deals because he had to personally sign each one. The fix is delegation and removing yourself from the approval process.

Hero syndrome is literally killing your business. If you are the hero, the bottleneck on something— sales, the firefighter running around doing everything, the one who has to check off on every single estimate that gets approved— this is killing your growth. We had a guy out in California we work with. The first month we worked with him, he had 70 estimates generated. The next month, he had 140 estimates generated. So we doubled his estimate count. These were good leads. He's creating estimates for them. The problem is that he had to sign off on every single estimate to close it. He did 140 estimates and only closed 30. Why? Because he's the bottleneck. Your only job as an owner of a business is to build the asset and scale the asset. Nothing else. You need to act like the owner, not the hero.
