What does a digital marketing agency do every month?

Phil Risher walks through what a digital marketing agency does each month to grow local service businesses. The work layers core tasks like SEO and content creation into weekly posts, blog updates, and Google My Business changes, then feeds analytics back into strategy to tie activity to actual ROI.

Today we're going to discuss what exactly does a digital marketing company do on a month to month basis and how can it help you grow your business? So on the screen we have our layers of digital marketing and this is something that I came up with to help articulate the difference between digital marketing companies. So the first two layers, social media, content creation and search engine optimization and website design, are the four basic functions of any digital marketing company that's out there. They're going to post on your social media in some capacity, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, whatever. They're going to create some type of content. They may run ads for you that they've created, they might do some type of search engine optimization, or they might say that they do some type of search engine optimization and then they also will create some type of website or help you manage some type of website. So there's a big discrepancy as far as how much does this cost and what exactly is happening and what are they doing. But these are the four main things that regardless if you have a digital marketing company or someone internally or even yourself, these are the four things that you should be doing because it helps with visibility when it comes to digital marketing. So what I want to look at is these four areas and then the next layer to this, which is what exactly is happening on a month to month basis and how is it helping you grow your company. So after you actually do the tasks that are being done on a monthly basis, there needs to be some type of reporting, analytics and then a strategy behind the information that you've gathered from doing these tasks and ultimately that will lead to some type of growth or return on investment. So let's just take a look on how this works when it comes to Flash and how it should work when it comes to any type of digital marketing that you're investing into. So from a Google perspective, search engine optimization, SEO, Google My business is the first thing on a local service business. So they should, any digital marketing company should be doing some type of work on your Google My Business. They should be posting here. They should be taking information and insights from the back end of your Google account and helping create content. I've created several videos about that strategy. You can go and check out our channel for those types of videos. So from an SEO perspective, they should be doing something with Google My Business. They should definitely be posting stuff here. From an on site SEO perspective, they should be doing some type of blog post or case studies or some type of refresher at least on a monthly basis to Your website. They also should hopefully have some type of programmer or someone who's able to build out new content on your website, whether it's pages or different plugins or chat features, those type of things. So what we do is when we meet with our clients, we meet with them on a monthly basis. We are learning about their business and strategizing. So for one, one simple example is right now, people are trying to hire new employees. So what we do is we hear them, we say, okay, well, what if we created a careers page on the website that people could come to and apply? And then what we can do is create a QR code with that careers page that people can then scan and apply if we were to hang these flyers maybe at a local community college or something like that. So this is a great way of taking digital local service business and pairing them together from more of a strategy type of perspective. Let's look at the analytics and reporting side. So each of our clients gets a custom dashboard that looks like this. And what it shows us is in a specific amount of time, what cities were the users that from that came to their website. So obviously this is Washington, D.C. ashburn, Virginia Reston, Virginia Arlington, Virginia South. So just by looking at this information, we probably want to create more content targeting Washington, D.C. ashburn, Virginia Reston, Virginia. We can also see what the top pages were that were visited. So this blog post about warning signs. So what we can do is go to that blog post and come up with strategies to maybe help with conversion rates. We also know which pages are performing better and which ones people are going to and maybe exiting and leaving. And we know the goals. And I made a video about goals and how we use goals to track return on investment. But we know where the acquisition source, so where the customer came from that ultimately turned to a goal. So did they come from Yelp, Facebook, Bing, Google? And so we can try and draw some type of ROI and say, hey, okay, Facebook is doing really good this month, maybe here's why. Yelp is doing really good this month. And here's why. What this then allows us to do is go back to the funnel and track all the way from the activities that we're doing on a monthly basis down to some type of return on investment by using the reporting and then putting it back in. So the last layer to this is using the actual search content that people are utilizing. So from an analytics perspective, we can go and see the queries that people are searching and say they are doing duct cleaning. And there's 1400 people that have searched this query. We can create more content using the information that we have here based on the city and linking to our top pages here and then pulling it all together to hopefully land more goals, more leads for the client. So this is what companies should be doing on a month to month basis for our clients. This is what we do and these are the different layers of digital marketing. We grow local service businesses.
