Phil Risher argues that HVAC technicians, electricians, and plumbers see their work as a grind because leaders keep the vision to themselves. When field workers don't know the plan, they can't see how their job matters to the business.

The problem is that they're the only one who know the plan or them and like one other, one other person. And then all the technicians are out, you know, doing their thing and they just think there is like monotonous to them. It's a, it's a grind, right? Like their job is just, just to go and, you know, do the, the day to day work. But they're not connected to the leader's vision and the mission of the organization and how their job today affects all of them.
