The hardest part about getting sober is not what you think it is. It's not the withdrawal or the cravings. It's not even going to all those meetings and therapy appointments. The hardest part about getting sober is admitting to yourself that you were wrong about what being sober means. You've spent years justifying and rationalizing your decisions to the point that you convinced yourself somewhere along the way that being sober means being boring and lame. And that makes it really hard for your ego to come to terms with a new identity as a sober person. But when you can get brave enough to be really honest with yourself, then you realize that the substance definitely didn't make you a cooler, funner, or happier person. If you've been able to come to terms with that truth for yourself, write the word truth in the comments.
